Anacondas: No review yet = bomb ?

When a movie, 2 days before release has not had a press screening, which it seems, since there are now reviews out there at all ... does it mean the movie is a bomb or the studio stopped caring?

I don't have a good feeling about this movie ... several reasons .. but at least it could turn into a nice popcorn ride ... and some gratuitus snake nudity ..

well .. premiere in a couple of hours in Fiji, where it was shot (but it is being sold as Borneo .. for reasons unknown) ...

we shall see ..

Um, Anacondas is the type of film that critic proof. Especially the first weekend. Regardless of good or bad word from critics people will see it in droves. They don't look for great acting, story, plot, etc. They are looking for the actors to get eaten by a snake.. more so by two snakes.

Forum troll is right.

but at least it could turn into a nice popcorn ride
pretty much what they are trying to shoot for. if it turns a profit then it's better news. but that's all that this film is.

Yeah, the first one was a compete piece of shit - but it was stupid fun. If the second one is dumb yet fun, i'll probably rent it and enjoy it too. If it delievers on the Giant Snakes Eating Lots of Humans, I'll be happy.

Well, "Aliens vs. Predator" and "Exorcist" didn't have press screenings either - so this doesn't really affect box office performance on certain films.

I didn't even like the first one; the trailer for the second one looks so predictable.... Going to skip this one big time.

It certainly looks less cheesy than the dozens of "animals amok" flicks on the Sci-Fi channel. I imagine it will turn a profit, it probably didn't cost a lot to make. It's a no-name cast, so that might hurt a bit. The first one had Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, the pompous ass from Titanic, Jon Voight, and Owen Wilson before he started blowing Ben Stiller.

Yeah, I dunno how people expect Hawaii to double as Ilsa Nubar in Jurassic Park.

May I ask which pompous ass you mean? Eric Stoltz was not in Titanic .. and Billy Zane was not in Anaconda but then again, i may get the most popular pompous asses wrong ...

and speaking of ass ... here is a pre-dated, pre-released review a friend of mine found

I read that the press screenings were well after the deadlines for the friday papers - at least in the case of AvP and Exorcist. So, I mis-spoke when I said there weren't any.

If Anacondas 2 is having press screenings then I am definitely surprised.

Actually, ANACONDAS screened on Tuesday night.

Funny enough, RESIDENT EVIL 2's press screening was recently cancelled.

Hmmmmm....

Jonathan Hyde, who played J. Bruce Ismay.

Well, I'm surprised. AvP and Exorcist were Fox and WB - Anacondas is Sony so this is a little insight into their marketing strategy on the respective studios' "critic-proof" films.

Resident Evil 2 is Sony as well. What's your point?

Anyway, while I think the film is going to be awful... it has JOHNNY MESSNER!

Y'all are just ignorant of the fact that he RULES YOU.

I just don't understand. Even for people obsessed with action movies, who really wants to see Anacondas? or AvP? or any of the other crap they're throwing at us this summer?

Agreed. These movies just plain suck. Action movies aren't supposed to suck. James Cameron where are you?

So is that J-Lo lookalike supposed to be the same character from the original or just the studio's way to try to dupe the naive into thinking it's her to see the flick?

I actually liked Anacondas. And the crowd was really into it. I think it's going to do well.
