Good song writing software?

Im looking for some software that will that generate melodies, chords, and a rhythm track for me to help in writing a song. I have heard of "band in a box" but am looking for others...are there any more professional (i.e. expensive) programs out there? Normally id buy the least expensive, but if there is a good one out there let me know..thanks

Adobe Audition, which was formerly known as Cool Edit Pro is an excellent piece of software. There is also Fruity Loops which is a bit more complicated, but more extensive. The two work nicely together, I find.

I hope that's what you're asking about...

audition, if it is as cool edit was, doesn't generate anything... it records what you generate though.

The most popular method is just using Acid Loops or Groove Clips with recording software.

With a little google work I came up with a piece of freeware. It could very well be crap ;-P

You will find that there is plenty of software out there that will create an accompaniment, but not the melody itself.

Google:

+generate +melody
+generate +accompaniment
+generate +rhythm

Oh !!! I almost forgot. The following forum is a great musician resource.

I hear some of the best songs ever written were with paper and pencil. Sometimes they used a guitar or piano also.

Audition comes with a cd full of musical loops, bits, etc. You can manipulate them, edit them, splice them, whatever. Same purpose.
