Suggestion = try getting some non-mainstream stuff. You don't seem to have much horror or international stuff so I'm not sure.

Welcome to the forum!

There's already a thread going...HERE

But for your collection... sorry for being honest but it's pretty much what I would see at Blockbuster. It's a good start, though.

I'd broaden your horizons:

1) Check out more international movies.
2) Oh, and more horror. Can't have too much horror.

I'm not saying those are bad movies. In fact, I own several of them.

You can click on one of my links in my sig to see what I like. My DVDAf collection is broken into folders for easier viewing.

Dude, asking to have your collection rated is asking for trouble. First off you have less than 50 DVD's and your LOTR's arent even the 4 discs extended cuts (or so I figured from what you wrote). Some would say that you dont even have enough discs to show what type of movies you are really into. Many of the movies seem to be movies that you must really like and want to have in your collection (which is fine) But you are missing many DVD staples ( i.e. The Matrix, which like it or not you almost HAVE to have in your collection). Also TV on DVD is very popular these days yet you dont even have 1 season anywhere.

So all in all, if you just started, if your happy with the collection GREAT, just keep going. But there are people on hear with close to a thousand or more DVD's, they have collections, and you'll know when you have a great DVD collection, because you wont have to ask.

I am not sure why you quoted that guy?

Its not that your movies are bad its just that they dont constitute a "collection". The movies you mention you want to get, some of those like Fight Club and T2 have been in my collection for years!

Personally I dont know why everyone needs to have all this horror and international stuff in thier collections but to each his own.

Like I said in my last post, get what you like but NEVER ask to be rated!

I agree. I just think that its your collection for a reason, well simply because it's yours. It's based on your personal tastes, your favorite movies or so on. Having people rate how good your tastes or personal preferences are , is just silly to me. Just buy whatever you feel like. Everyone on these boards has a different taste in movies and so on, and it makes us different/unique by having different collections and so on.

ok im done rambling.

Welcome to DVD Talk, here are some guidelines:

1. Michael Bay movies suck, as do Adam Sandler, Rob Schneider, Halle Berry, and a few others I can't think of off hand.

2. foolscreen

3. Not all mainstream movies suck but you must own some non-mainstream ones to prove your street-cred.

4. Luca$, Di$ney

5. Lord of the Rings is the trilogy of worship here. The movies, the dvds, the man Peter Jackson are untouchable.

Follow those 5 guidelines and you will be fine.

That list is nearly all horror mind you, with a few international titles thrown in, and as some of these are not available in Region 1 its becoming a bit more movie talk than DVDs themselves...

cheers tom , I'm out out here for now.
zidane349, several of those movies I listed I would class as 'good non-mainstream horror'(although those who are into horror would recognise them instantly)
The Beyond
Zombie
Suspiria
Phenomena
Deep Red
Black Sunday
add Shura aka Demons but its incredibly difficult to find even on Region 2; I haven't tracked down a copy yet
also The Driller Killer, The Toolbox Murders and Maniac for some good psychos
and the first 2 films in the Hellraiser series, 3rd if you like them(although if you do, hold off on buying as Region 2 is getting a new special edition which may follow in Region 1)

Why I think "Rate my dvd collection" suggestions are silly.

1. Everyone has different taste. Aslong as your own dvd collection reflects titles that you enjoy I have no say on what I would rate it cause it's your taste.. not mine.

2. Half of them turn out to be bragging threads. And when it comes down to it a lot of other people have a ton more dvds and buy more a month then you may have in your collection.

3. Does it matter what I think? will you actually go out and rent/buy something because I may think you may like it? I somewhat doubt it.

In saying that I will rate your collection. Looks like a lot of blockbuster titles indeed. Nothing sticks out as something that the average joe will watch. I doubt I would ever watch half of those movies more then once. Some of them I don't even want to watch that many times.

I would suggest picking up the EE's of LOTR if those aren't it on your list. It seems like you have a mainstream sort of taste.

I can only suggest buying more fox titles. Simply because everyone needs fox titles and I need a bigger paycheck.

First thing I'd do is replace your copies of Fight Club and Se7en with the 2-disc sets.

For horror, it might be tough because of your age. Try Night of the Living Dead Millennium Edition. Try the new release of Fulchi's Zombie.

For Criterions, try Man Bites Dog, The Vanishing and Rushmore

Well, at least you dont have the Matrix. Thats a point in your favor. But you need to stay away from mainstream stuff - in short, get some movies that dont suck. You need more international films and old classics.

Yes, you obviously don't have much taste. I mean, actually owning mainstream movies on DVD? Don't you know, this hobby isn't about owning what you like... it's about owning the best films according to other people - mostly the pretentious, holier-than-thou type - who you don't know and definitely should not care about. Dude, just sell your collection and DVD player now. It's over.
