Wireless home theater speakers?
Pardon my ignorance, but does any company sell wireless home theater speakers? I'd really like to not have wires running across the living room and around walls and such. It's an appartment so I don't think they'll like me ripping up the carpet. Can anyone help me out here?

I have the same problem here...rent a place and can't drill into the walls or floor. I wind up just moving them in and out when I really want to get that surround sound. Most of the time, I just keep them all up front and move what would generally be the back speakers out toward the walls a bit.
My landlord is really anti-technology...he won't let me install a satellite dish, either - so instead of DirectTV, I'm stuck with cable.

None of the Wireless speakers have good sound quality! 900mhz & 2.4 ghz are the same frequencies as cordless phones and baby monitors.
Also, there is no way (other than on the speaker itself) to control the volume of the wireless speakers via the receiver. This really makes them useless for Home theater useage as they will never be calibrated and work properly with your system.
There IS a way to run wires, maybe you just don't know how, don't want to or are not willing to pay a professional to complete the job properly.
Of that topic to another that Shannon Nutt posted "My landlord is really anti-technology...he won't let me install a satellite dish, either - so instead of DirectTV, I'm stuck with cable."
Have your landlord read the FCC Mandate that allows YOU (renter) to have/use a dish and the landlord cannot prevent it.

You can file a petition if the landlord is still unwilling to comply!

From: Hell - see you when you get here.
you can run speaker wire under carpets.. with a special tool called "the snake" i believe.. it's just a firm wire that can push the wire under the carpet from one wall to the other.

Glad you posted that (I was going to mention that as well). However, it is often not that simple. For example, if outside modification of the facade of the building is necessary, the user must pay for it (and to remove it when they leave). The user will also have to sign of a waiver of liability for the install party and the like.
You may also run into problems if your city has any historic or aesthetic ordinances. They may prevent you from doing an optimum install. While clearly these things do not supercede the first amendment, they may inhibit your ability to get a proper install (i.e., clean view of the southern skies).
Whew. Haven't spoken so much legalese in a long time

Wow. Everyone, thanks for the insight. If I do end up getting a system I'll probably do this:
or set them up when I need to use them since I don't watch dvd's that often to have them up all the time so it wouldn't be that much of a hassle. Again, thanks.
