Anyone know anything on the Toys R Us Rumor for this month?

I know this was brought up a month or so ago that they may do it in August. I wanted to see if anyone knew if it was going to happen or if it is still just going to be at the end of October or so like usual.

Bump. Just wondered if anyone knew the dates for this yet, or if they remembered when it's happened in the past. There are three games coming up that I want, so I was wondering if it would coincide with the deal (Killzone 11/2, Halo 2 11/9, and Call of Duty 11/16).

Usually, this deal has been selected games instead of all games, no?

Actually, no.

Every fall, it's been all games. Last year, they split up the platforms to different weeks, but it was all games within the promoted platform.

I've read the platforms are split again this year. Look for October 17 and 24.

Cheapassgamer has two different threads on this. One employee says the week of the 27th for all systems, another says 17th for GCN and GBA, and 24th for PS2 and XBOX. Still can't confirm either.

If this happens, will it work on pre-orders? (I assume no)

As far as preorders I believe that is definitely no. However, has anyone in the past tried the old "I got this for my birthday but already have it" swap once that game comes out? Just wondering since it seems like an obvious loophole that should work.

Yeah, I returned games from this for a swap later. I went in during the first PS2 sale, got three games. Only wanted one of them - returned the others as new games came out that I really wanted.

The only catch with TRU is that, unless you get lucky, you HAVE to keep the game you get for free. Their system just won't refund something that didn't cost you anything to begin with. Make sure that the game you want to keep is the freebie. If you ask, they'll ring them up accordingly.

Cheapassgamer has an employee that says he saw the ad and it will start on the 24th and will be all systems, letting you mix and match however you want. He has generally been pretty reliable, I believe he also broke the 50% off deal, I think I've seen him post here too.

I predict that 10 minutes after Toys R Us opens on sale day all the good games will be gone.

Was this the case last year? I got what I wanted last year a few days after the sale. I got some older games, Metroid Prime, Mario Sunshine and LOTR Two Towers, but I don't remember a lot being sold out. Maybe just the new big releases? I am getting only $20 games this year. New games drop in price so quick, in a few months many will be bargain bin or at the very least $30. I can wait til next years sale and pick up this years big games cheap.

Once the sale is confirmed in advance, just buy the games you want and come back and price match them later. Perfectly legal, I asked the sales clerk at TRU last year and she said this was fine.

Argh! Why couldn't they start it a week, maybe two weeks later? I was wanting to get Ratchet and Clank 3, Jak 3, and the new Spyro game for my kid at this year's sale.

I would be interested in hearing what everybody is planning on getting.

Close to me. I was planning on Jak 3, R&C 3 and Sly 2 for $80 (or $26.67 each). Throw in one $50 and your per game average gets blown. What I'll likely do is buy a couple of placeholders like I did last year (another $40 game I don't want, last year it was Grabbed By The Ghoulies). I'll make sure Sly 2 is the freebie in the bunch and then swap out when those other platformers come in.

I imagine everyone will try to use it for GTA : SA, which makes sense. Still I'm expecting Fry's to have a good price on that title anyway. Two years ago, TRU had this sale on the GTA VC release week as well.

Did anyone have any luck price matching at Best Buy last year? I have some reward zone points and some McD's coupons to redeem.

Also to make it a better deal..Buy 2 EA sports titles..get the free TRU game, and then send in the coupon thing for the free EA sports game

so..buy 2 games..get 2 games free..if you mix and match the EA sports deal

Hey, thanks for mentioning my thread, msdmoney. I do post here too occassionally. But anyway, the Buy2get1 deal is definitely happening the 24th-30th.

Hmm, I want to pick up Donkey Konga and Pikmin 2. Then any other filler that I can exchange for Metroid Prime 2 when it comes out a couple weeks later. But I'm broke, and I'm anxious to get the DS too. Argh, decisions, decisions.
