OLD TV-- Can I hook up my DVD?
Old TV just has a cable hook up. No audio/video jacks. I could hook up a VCR with no problem, but it doesn't seem that I can hook up my dvd player.
am I out of luck or can I buy something to allow this older TV to be hooked up to the dvd player?

I agree that it's time to buy a new TV, especially considering how cheap they are these days.
But until then, yes you can hook up a DVD player. You need an RF modulator, available at any Wal-Mart, Best Buy or Radio Shack. Should cost you about $25.

You can buy an RF modulator like this

but it will only look as good as your VCR.

Thank you all very much. I knew ChiTownAbs doesn't have ALL the answers like he thinks he does.
Yeah, i know it's time to buy a new TV--but this is just an old 13" bedroom TV. I upgraded to a DVD/VCR combo for my family room TV--so I have the extra dvd player.
I will maybe only watch a movie on it 1x month. It's primarily a Letterman/Good Morning America TV.
would you trust buying one of these off of ebay? maybe i can find it even cheaper.
Is there anything specific I need to look for if I do try to buy it on ebay. Seems there are lots of different brands/models.

My daughter has a tv like that (not old--but I was stupid and didn't notice it had no av inputs till I got it home.) An RF modulator will work. Or, if you can disable macrovision on your dvd player (hit or miss--check online, many players have a hack), you could run the dvd through the vcr.

I just saw RF modulators for $9.99 at a store called Big Lots (they specialize in clearance items bought from other places). If you happen to have one of those in the area, or something similar, you might check there.

If you still have the VCR, try running the video/audio cables from your DVD player to the video/audio in jacks on your VCR. Then set your VCR to LINE (or whatever it's called) and tune your TV to channel 3/4.
EDIT: Re: Mr. Salty's following comment. I forgot about that. In my setup, I'm using a Panasonic VCR from the 1990's, before they started worrying about such things.

I've gotten the vcr/dvd set up to work before on an apex that had the macrovision disabled. It's pretty easy to do on many dvd players. I found out how for my player at www.nerd-out.com.
