Scratches on DVDs?
Hi. Occasionally, after a DVD has been in my player, I might see a faint line around the outer edge of the disc.. It's visible under an intense light, but under a normal light bulb, the surface looks perfect.. I was wondering what might cause this and how to prevent it.. I'm assuming the DVD is touching the tray it's sitting on?
Thanks
John

Hey.. As far as I can tell, it doesn't seem to affect the playback of the disc.. The line seem to go all the way around the edge..
Also, I'm curious how much a disc is actually used? Do most DVDs get filled with data to the outer edges?
Thanks
John

What are you seeing is probably just the way the disc was manufactured. I checked a few of my discs, and some of them have a visible edge, others don't. I think it differs from the media they are using.
As far as I know, they leave at least a bit of buffer room so the laser isn't reading all the way to the outside edge, same for the inside edge.
If it isn't affecting playback, then I'd say you have nothing to worry about.
