Big New Enterprise Season 4 Spoilers

The official Star Trek site put up an interview with Manny Coto, the executive producer who will be taking over more of the writing duties this season. This is some of what he said:

A 22nd-century Dr. Soong, a shadow of the Eugenics Wars, a Vulcan civil war and the possible reincarnation of Surak ... these are some of the epic ideas being developed right now for the unfolding fourth season of Star Trek: Enterprise.

...

Arik Soong is a notorious criminal, and Coto even compared him to Hannibal Lecter

...

"It's gonna be a blast. I'm picturing the scene where two Vulcan armies are poised on the desert — what's gonna happen, will they or will they not fight?"
There's all sorts of stuff about Orions, a three-episode Vulcan Civil War, Andorians, the Eugenics Wars. Why couldn't Manny Coto have come to the show sooner?

hopefully the show will get a nice boost and it'll move out of the death time slot

Hell, anybody was an improvement. All of these plans sound pretty sweet.

I like how these ideas seem a lot more epic and more of what you'd expect from a prequel. They aren't the lame ideas that could have been done on the other series, like "Archer faces off against aliens who take over the ship".

From the storylines I have read on Trekweb, it doesnt sound real promising. Remember B&B are still Producers and can veto anything Coto does.
As long as they are still in place I think Trek will still me mediorce.

The BIGGEST problem with Enterprise that the other series didn't have is there are certain rules they CAN'T break, because we already know what happens in the future. If they would set another show in the 24th century (or beyond), they could make it far more interesting, IMHO.

True, but there's so much Federation history that we know nothing about other than a throwaway line in an episode long ago. I've never even heard of a Vulcan Civil War, but I'd believe it, done right.

i agree with some of it, but TOS was set in the 60's with crappy (by our standards) SFX. Enterprise would suck if all they did was fly around in boxy ships with no way to look outside or communicate with anyone else.
