Difference between treble and bass?

Can someone explain to me what's the difference ? there are options for treble and bass on my receiver and I can adjust it from 0 to 10. Thanks.

Why not just turn the knobs while you're listening to something and see what happens?

Turn both knobs to their default, which is either 0 or 5.
