How come the James Bonds dvds are OOP? Are they only avaible in the box sets now? Thanks for the help.

Yup, they are indeed only available in box sets right now. I heard each one may get another re-release when the next James Bond movie gets released. For me, I am very happy with the ones from the box sets that I purchased. Lots of great special features and good audio commentary's.

Yes. All 19 orignal Bond films (Die Another Day was #20, released later) were available in box sets or indiivually. When DAD was released, seven Bonds were re-released in a new box or individually (the discs were the same as before). After DAD came out on DVD, two more new compilations were released as box sets, but those discs were not made available seperately, strangely. I don't know what's up with MGM, but wouldn't be at all suprised if they all get new versions by the time the next bond film comes out (whenever that is).

Yeah it's lame. I only want a few of the ones from the box sets. Well, they won't be getting my $$ until they release them individually, and I can wait.

i sold my Diamonds Are Forever disc about a month or so back, and didn't get very much for it- about $12-15...maybe less

Adrenaline the Bonds movies I have are Goldeneye, Goldfinger, and The world is not enough. Sorry i dont have Thunderball.

Word gets around when you have 'Thunderballs'...

They are currently remastering the video and sound for all Bond MGM releases and producing new bonus features. Don't ask me for a link - there are plenty of threads with them (plus I don't have one! )

Aren't they releasing the remasters they're working on in one big mega set that looks like a big huge gold movie reel? I know last time that picture of the set surfaced, it was just speculation but, by god it would be amazing.

I bought the Bond movies way back when on VHS .... then bought them again on VHS when they were re-released in OAR. Now I have the DVD box sets ...

I'm through spending $$ on these titles -I'll live with what I have even if they do remaster and re-release them.

As was indicated above, the Bond movies are, apparently, being worked on for a future release. I remember reading some details from a company that is involved with this project. They indicated:

-New video transfers for all the films through "The World is Not
Enough".

-"Dr. No" through "The Man with the Golden Gun" will have new
5.1 channel sound.

-Possible DTS on some titles

-Release date: October 2005

The release date was to be one month before the next Bond film was released to theaters. Since there has been little, if any movement, on a new Bond feature film (I don't even think the producers have decided whether or not they want to bring Brosnan back), I'm not sure if the release date for the new DVD's is going to hold.

IIRC they did w/ the VHS Bonds too, kept them on a tight release schedule much like Disney does w/ it's animated classics.

Yup. Those are the ones I want, too. I can wait for single discs...

I am actually enormously impressed with the quality of the current batch. Not being a technophile perfectionist, I see no need to upgrade for the next release. Of course, I also see no need to upgrade my digital TV to an HDTV as the difference is not that significant to me, almost unnoticeable really.

I purchased all 3 boxed sets several years ago and am still impressed with the amount of features and the picture quality. No upgrade for me. besides, the older films would sound strange in 5.1

The picture quality on some of the older movies is atrocious. I tried watching Goldfinger on a large screen and had to turn it off in disgust. There wasn't a single shot that wasn't rife with massive compression artifacts. MGM made the mistake of cramming too many bonus features onto the same disc with the movie, leaving very little room for the video bit rate. I pulled out my laserdisc and, despite being non-anamorphic, it looked substantially better.

I put all three box sets on eBay the next day. I don't regret dumping them in the slightest.

The movies will be remastered and re-released next year. I can wait.
