Best place to find used DVDs???

Well besides the exchange forum what's the best places to find used dvds? I'm looking for more of a b & m store rather than online sites.

Maybe someone knows of some in the metro Detroit area, around Sterling Heights?

I'm going to look for pawn shops tomorrow, but are there chains that also sell used dvds?

Thanks for any info!

I usually go to Coconut's, they have alot in my area. Also FYE sells some, or EBgames usually has some as well.

Look for mom + pop shops, i have one in my area that is great, its kind of hidden, and everything's the same price, so sometimes i find some rarities there.

I have gotten some great deals at pawn shops lately - and the discs are usually in like new condition. Just last week I got LOTR TT EE for $10 (- the booklet), and Evil Dead SCE (Elite) for $3. At the same shop, I got 10 dvds one night for $35 - many good flicks, some mediocre ones for $3.

A while back, I got a T2 Extreme w/metal cover in mint condition for $5. I know a guy on another forum who got a mint condition Band of Brothers set (in the tin) for $40 at a pawn shop.

FYE and EB Games used prices are usually pretty high - I have seen some used prices of $14.99 to $16.99 higher than new prices elsewhere. For example, one FYE had the same T2 Extreme set for $14.95 - when you can get it new at Target for the same price, or at Deepdiscount for $10.63. But occasionally they let a good price slip by - I saw xXx superbit for $5.99 at an EB Games, but passed since I already have the regular release (and wasn't that impressed - though it was tempting just to have a superbit to do a comparison).

Blockbuster used to be a great place to buy used if you waited for a buy 2 get 1 free sale - but they seem to have cut back on those lately. The occasional 3 for $25 weekend is still a pretty good deal on PVDs priced $12.99 or higher - but I liked to look for good trade-in discs priced at $9.99, and those are only a good deal during the B2G1 sales.

I also got Band of Brothers for $40 at a local swap shop. However, this place is inconsistent with their pricing & trades(depends on who checks your trade-ins). They wouldn't take a few of mine a while back because they had "scratches" (very small, almost unseen) but I bought one from them last week that was scratched to hell and back. Also, they frequently have multiple copies of the same flick but there will be different prices on them due to different employees pricing them.

Thanks for the replies. Didn't know EBgames sells used dvds. I'll have to stop by there. Don't know if we have a Coconuts around here though. Never heard of that store and FYE is just too darn expensive.

Used record stores are starting to carry used DVDs. But KNOW YOUR PRICES. Lots of time the used price is higher than the new price at a discount B&M. Used prices also tend not to reflect price drops. There are not really that many good deals out there...yet.

I hit the local CD warehouse and was browsing their DVDs, laughing at the absurdly high prices (season 1-2 of The Simpsons used for $29.99 - I bought for $9.99 after rebate from FYE).

Then I spotted an Armageddon Criterion - and opened the case expecting it to find $20 or more - but it was only $12.99! (Lower than many crappy newer DVDs they had on the shelves). The discs were behind the counter, and I fully expected them to be scratched - but they were perfect. (The slipcase is missing).

Pretty sure it was a misprice, since they also had The Rock CC for $19.99 - not a good price and the case was a little beat up. They had sold a Robocop CC earlier in the day (dunno what price).

For anyone that is in the Dallas/ Fort Worth area, Traders Village out in Grand Prarie has outrageous deals on DVD's. I go out every weekend and pick up brand new releases that were released just the Teusday before for like 12.00. Everything is mint. That's my pick.

Coconuts is alright, the one by me was going out of business and had 50% of all used!
Needless to say, I picked up Criterion Life of Brian for 12 bucks.

Amazon marketplace

The cheapest I see here is $25 but doesn't say anything about a tin - the only one that does is $50, all the way at the bottom.

EB Games is good for the occasional price oddity, such as the 2-disc Texas Chainsaw Massacre that I got for $5.99. It still hasn't been corrected, as they recently took in another copy and the price actually went down -- it was $3.99 this time.

The CD Warehouse by me has a good number of quality titles. Saw the Warner 2-disc SEs for $14 each (not too great) and a good number of CCs I already owned, but the place did have nice selection.

Wind and the Lion today at a pawn shop for $4 (mint condition).

Most pawn shops are pretty picky about buying scratched discs, and if you can find one where the prices are reasonable, you can get some deals. Most of the ones I have bought look like they have never been touched.

Wow - found my best deal yet - the Black Hawk Down 3-disc deluxe set for $6.19 in mint condition (except for a slight bit of peeling on the slipcover).

Also got Thunderheart for $3 (glad I didn't buy it at Walmart for $7.50).

Pawn shops rule!

Movie Exchange in Houston is great. It's on the corner of Westheimer and Hilcroft (where Soundwaves used to be). I picked up Ghosts of the Abyss for $8 and Cody Banks 2 for $10 last week. I think Cody Banks had just come out too. They always have really good prices for most used DVDs, but on occasion if they get overstocked on a title, their price will be downright ridiculous.

You might want to try Flipside over on 14 and Main in Clawson (just north of Royal Oak). Prices are decent and usually a varied selection. I haven't been there in a while since I've moved down to Jacksonville.

Otherwise, I just hit Hollywood video for the 3 for $25 deals but you typically only get newer releases there.

I've had some luck at the chain stores like GameStop and Coconuts. In fact, at Game Stop I just got a pristine copy of Karate Kid (it's OOP) with insert for $9.

If you are going to buy used you should be aware of any up coming MSRP price reductions. If not you may pay more for a used copy of something that's cheaper new.

Wow - I just looked on Amazon.com, and marketplace sellers have it listed for $52 and up.

I think you topped my Blackhawk Down Deluxe for $6!

Amoeba Music in SF (its on Haight Street)

Rasputin Music in SF (it has a tad better selection used than most of the other Rasputins)

and also try your local Wherehouse Music stores.
