Fix a broken gamecube?

My girlfriend's little brother has a broken gamecube and they were told that the laser was gone on it and has to be replaced. I was wondering how costly this was, or if I could go somewhere and get a 2nd opinion or even if there are any online resources to help fix gamecubes.

I am not familiar with the innards of the gamecube but would like to see if it is salvageable.

This one will cost ya to download, but I'm guessing it's the same as what the other I posted above tells you how to do.
