Have Super Monkey Ball 2..is part one worth getting??

While I love playing SMB2, I've been weary about picking up Super Monkey Ball.

I know its rather cheap and all, but is there any reason to pick up part one if you already have part two???

With all of the mini-games repeated, is there much difference in the main game to warrant its purchase?

Any recommndations are welcome.

Thanks!

It depends on why you play monkey ball. If you are in it more for the minigames then, as you stated, MB1 only adds alternate versions of the minigames found in MB2 and would not be worth the purchase. However, the main game for MB1 is far superior to that of MB2. The levels are more logical and require only skill (not luck) to complete. Having played both extensively, the only one I own is MB1 because I play the main game most of all.

The mini-games aren't just repeats. I liked Monkey Golf from SMB1 much better. The Golf in SMB1 was more of a mini-golf game, and my wife and I had lots of fun with it. We were disappointed with the more 'realistic' SMB2 golf.

The main game is better in SMB1. Better level design, and none of the horrible cutscenes and nonsense story that was added for SMB2.

SMB2 does have the better Monkey Bowling, and more party games though, so it's not all bad.

Sounds good.

I basically play SMB2 for the main game so I'll take that as two solid recommendations.

BTW, for what its worth, finally made it to world 8 the other night. Not sure how hard 8 through 10 are, but I just want something to play when I finish.

Damn...that screen with the rings was hard!! Don't know how one could ever make it to the bonus levels in this game.

I think SMB was better than SMB2's main quest as well. I'll echo what someone said about SMB being more about skill than luck.

HOWEVER, the bummer about SMB is that you will surely need some MAD skills to get very far in the expert round. Many, many people got stuck on Expert 7 (including me) and missed out on a whole bunch of levels just because that level was so insanely hard.

SMB2 was nice in that if you got stuck on a level, you could always try some of the other levels and come back to it later.

I'd recommend both, as they are both great games.

I'm with mixalot. If you play it for multiplayer, stick with SMB2. But if you are into the 1 player, pick up SMB1 it is definitely more challenging.

Then again you can probably find it for around $12-$14 on half.com and that is worth it.

So did you ever pick up Super Monkey Ball 1?
If so, did you get past Expert 7?

I picked it up for $10 from Toys R us yesterday as part of the 50% off sale, for 10 I figure you can't go wrong.

JoeBlow69-

As msdmoney did, I picked it up this morning at the Toys R Us sale.

Also got SSX3 (GC) and Sphinx (XBOX).

I'll let you know how I fare in the weeks that follow.
