Emmy Nominations come out Thursday 7/15 - who would you nominate?
I believe the cutoff for programming is the beginning of last summer to the beginning of this summer (June 1 I believe). For example, Nip/Tuck S1 is the season under review. Oh and Six Feet Under is ineligible under these time restraints. Unfortuntely, that means I can't nominate Coupling.
Standard is 5 nominations per category.
Here are my nominations (winner is *):
Best Drama:
Nip/Tuck*
The Shield
The Sopranos
American Dreams
The O.C.
Best Actor in a Drama:
Julian McMahon, Nip/Tuck*
James Gandolfini, The Sopranos
Michael Chiklis, The Shield
Dennis Franz, NYPD Blue
Peter Gallagher, The O.C.
Best Actress in a Drama:
Edie Falco, The Sopranos
Mariska Hargitay, Law & Order SVU*
Joely Richardson, Nip/Tuck
Gail O'Grady, American Dreams
Kelly Rowan, The O.C.
Best Supporting Actor in a Drama:
Michael Imperioli, The Sopranos
Benito Martinez, The Shield*
Jonathan Adams, American Dreams
Adam Brody, The O.C.
Walton Goggins, The Shield
Best Supporting Actress in a Drama:
Drea DeMateo, The Sopranos*
CCH Pounder, The Shield
Jessalyn Gilsig, Nip/Tuck
Brittany Snow, American Dreams
Catherine Dent, The Shield
(What - were you expecting Elisabeth Rohm?)
I won't do comedy picks since I only watch 4 comedies but suffice to say that with the exception of Topher Grace winning Best Actor in a Comedy, Arrested Development should sweep the board.
Best Reality Show:
Survivor All-Stars*
The Apprentice
The Amazing Race 4
Survivor Pearl Islands
Average Joe

Yeah, Arrested Development will finally get it's due.
Just once I'd like to see Late Night w/ Conan O'Brien get it's props. It always gets screwed over by Letterman or The Daily Show.

Yeah - if the first 3 episodes are representative of his work over the whole season, he would make my list and perhaps beat out Benito Martinez. Unfortunately, when I started catching up with Deadwood on HBO On Demand, they suddenly yanked it. Fortunately, they are replaying it on Sat nights so I should be able to slowly catch up.

Oooh - Big Fat Fiance. I forgot about that one. Might have to bump Average Joe.
Of course, PTI should win an Emmy.

Gilmore Girls in comedy: I think it will, if snagging a nod, will be drama. As Lauren Graham was nominated for a Golden Globe in the drama category a couple of years ago. I will eat my words tomorrow if I am wrong.
And I most definitely think Ian McShane will be nominated for Lead if he gets a nod. I will eat my words if he is supporting tomorrow though.
to you for making the list, though. Hope American Dreams gets many. Pleasant surprise.
My only snag: I hope that Fraiser, Sex and the City, and Friends don't hog all the nominations. There were many other shows that were far better than their last seasons. on that.

Yeah, I knew I was cheating when I did those, but the lines are so blurry that I could make the argument. It was hard enough leaving Treat Williams off the BEST MALE ACTOR list; making room for Ian McShane would be too much to handle. Same with Gilmore girls. There's just no room for it in DRAMA, but as a COMEDY, I can recognize it. It's all splitting hairs with these great ensemble shows and hour long dramedies. I don't doubt you're right on how the Academy will treat these shows/actors (or more precisely, how the producers will submit them), but I'm not the Academy ... unlike them, I know what I'm doing.

Damn, das, are American Dreams and SVU really that good? I have to admit I've never seen an episode of either. Well, because I love lists, I'll do mine in order.
Drama:
1. Nip/Tuck
2. Dead Like Me
3. The Shield
4. Angel
5. OC
Comedy:
1. Scrubs
2. Gilmore Girls
3. Arrested Development
4. South Park
5. Wonderfalls
Wonderfalls and OC could probably switch places, but GG is definitely a comedy.
Reality:
1. MBFOF
2. Joe Schmo
3. Survivor Pearl Islands
4. Big Brother
5. I'll think of something later

They sure are. Of course, there are so many worthy dramas that SVU just missed my cut.
I really have to watch The Wire sometime. It would be nice if HBO replays it.
It is almost a good thing West Wing lost its luster this year given the depth out there. Makes this a lot easier. My only hope is that the Academy members don't nominate it based on 'lifetime achievement.'

Totally agree that the following will finally get their due:
PTI
Nip Tuck
Benito Martinez, The Shield
Arrested Development
Don't really watch much reality TV, but I kind of like The Casino. Don't think it'll get nominated though.

All things dead:
Deadwood
Dead Like Me
The Dead Zone
Although considering how flaky, boring, and predictable their nominations have always been, I doubt any of the above will make the cut.

Once again, a predictible list...with the exception of John Ritter for Best Comedy Actor (undeserving, but a nice nod toward his career) and Brad Dourif for Best Supporting Actor for Deadwood.

Plus I feel shameful as a Baltimore native not to be watching a drama about my violent city.
I think The Wire started when only had my 1 Replay. Choices had to be made, particularly with another crime drama. Oh well live and learn. The 1st 6 episodes are available in my HBO On Demand through the end of the month. I'll check it out and see if I like it.
