5 More Marx Bros. re-issues on Nov. 9!
Animal Crackers, The Cocoanuts, Duck Soup, Horse Feathers, Monkey Business will be re-issued by Universal on Nov. 9th. Retail is $59.98.

Since they haven't yet specified one way or the other, I can't ask about the new specs ... but, regarding the old 'Horse Feathers', was it the same beat-to-shit transfer we've seen on VHS for all these years? You know, where the scene in which Chico gives a piano lesson has large gaps in frames and audio? Or was it, at least, the international version, which I've been led to understand doesn't have those problems?
Hopefully, they'll at *least* fix that ...

Only available as a set - not separately? That's kind of lame. But I guess it's not too big a deal, since Cocoanuts is the only one I don't want.
Also, if they're not going to release these separately, they could have, very easily, put 2 films per disc on this, without sacrificing anything. But I guess that way they couldn't charge as much, since it'd be less discs - typical Universal hack/rip-off job...

Universal confirmed that Duck Soup was being remastered, so we can at least hope they did the same for all 5 films.
Duck Soup didn't even look too bad on the old Image DVD.

Horse Feathers still has a run time of 67 minutes? I had heard (and correct me if I'm wrong) that the 67 minute version was the running time for the television-edited version of HF.

I did my part by buying the recent Marx Brothers Collection, and I was hoping that if that set sold enough copies that the other Marx Brothers films would be re-issued. Now I just hope they do it right and have nice transfers and bonus features!

If Amazon does their standard 30% off discount, these films will be around $7.56 each with STL.
Obviously, some of us (including this poster) have been spoiled by the per-film-price of the Abbott & Costello franchise collections if we're complaining about the cost of this set.

I think Universal realized they dramatically under-priced their A&C films, and it's a lot harder to raise the prices than to lower them.
They were whoring out their product in cheap packs just at the time they were being bought by NBC. I think now that the deal went through and they didn't all get fired, they'll probably try to take a little more time and care with their releases. We'll probably end up with more bad transfers and manufacturing problems still, after all...they are Universal!
