What is the Hollywood Stock Exchange?

From the website: “Buy shares of your favorite actors and their new movies. Watch their values rise or fall based on their success. Prices soar with a blockbuster opening at the box office and plummet with a bomb no one went to see.” For those who have never played, the game is as a complicated or as easy as you want to make it (much like the real stock market).

Now, I know several of you already have HSX accounts. To keep things fair, in order to participate in the league you’ll need to start up a new account. Here’s what you need to do to join the league:

1. Go to www.hsx.com and start up a new account.

2. You can use any username you want, although if everybody used the format “DVDTalk_[DVDTalk Username]” it would make things easier to track. For example, if my DVDTalk username was "Stockbroker" my account for the league will be DVDTalk_Stockbroker.

When signing up, put down DVDTalk_TeeSeeJay in the "Did a friend refer you?" column. Feel free to take advantage of any of the special offers and freebies offered at this time as well.

3. After you sign up, go to “Account Information” and set your “Screen Name” to be exactly the same as your screen name here at DVDTalk. This will help avoid confusion.

4. Come back here and post your HSX user name. You need to have a new account, or I won’t add you to the league.

5. Entry into the league is always open...we welcome newcomers!

Remember, new players: add this week's "Bottom Feeder" (DVDTalk_TeeSeeJay) as your referral when signing up!

Sorry, I somehow missed your post in the other thread. I've added you to my league, and you'll show up in the standings next week.

No change for me this week after my best week ever last week. Hopefully I can move into the top 25 by next week.

Good job on the leaderboard, Groucho.

I'm long on both, and King Arthur too (though the Wednesday numbers for Arhtur didn't thrill me).

We will know with friday's numbers. If it gets a 5-6 million those who are long are screwed. If it gets 8-10 million we might make some money.

I was hoping for at least 8 million between the two days so it was slightly above my hopes. I had fears of AW80D type numbers of under 2 million a day

I shorted King Arthur when it was $92 and then got out when it hit $70, so I am happy with that tidy little profit. As for Anchorman and Sleepover, I think that both should be held long. Of course, I have been wrong before (many many times)

Looks like those who shorted Arthur will make another million and those who went long will lose another million.

I am not sure why I keep breaking my rule and playing these movies

Ouch this is going to hurt me something fierce. Probably a half mil and change. My apologies for saying in the last thread that I thought King Arthur was going to be a "winner".

Man, I hate Saturdays. Seems as soon as I move on a stock, it'll reverse itself. It's a conspiracy, I tell you!

That is why I look for stocks I would be happy to own at that price. This way I do not feel bad when they screw me over

I have been up from 100k to 500k today. My stocks have been bouncing around a bit. Of course I have been doing some selling and buying to try and stay ahead of the moves.

Saturdays are the day to dump stocks you've been meaning to without the hassle of expensive fee's. look at what might be something folks would like to dump and see if you can get it cheaper.

here is a hint for some of you. with comic con coming up a lot of those titles that will get some news attention *might* move up some.. hint hint.
