Spider-Man Fox Animated series; When will we see a season box set?
I really had my hopes up that this year sometime we would see a Spider-Man (Fox Kids series) box set sometime this year. The classic 60's series was released in a box set so I thought that this would follow soon. But all we seem to get are these discs with about 6 eps. on them featuring a particular hero/villain around the same time a movie is released (they are doing the same with the X-Men now too). These are practically useless. Most of the best episodes span over a season and they are no where to be found on any of these discs. I haven't bought the last two because I keep feeling I'm being ripped off.
Has Disney given a formal excuse as to why they aren't releasing these as season box sets? Or do they just like screwing with us. And if anyone out there knows, are there plans to release this as a season box and if so when?

I always used to think the show kinda sucked, but seeing the DVDs playing at work lately makes me think it actually rocked...
I loved the Venom series.
X-Men was great too, but BATMAN was the BEST cartoon series ever made.

I'm a bit iffy on buying the Batman set, but if Spiderman set came out i'd probably cave in for it. I loved the show... particularly the continuation that they did throughout the series, letting events evolve over multiple episodes.

I personally agree with Masamune that BTAS was the best cartoon ever made, especially concerning superhero's. I always thought the Spiderman series was down the list under BTAS, Superman (both TAS and Fleischer<sp?>, and X-men.
That being said Spiderman trumped all the other shows as far as guest stars and continuity were concerned. They really did a great job of using characters from the Marvel universe. I also loved how they would have a bunch of multi-part story arcs. The Venom arc was great fun as was Secret Wars, and Clone Saga. If they released these (and were priced right) I would snatch them up in a second.

I would LOVE for this to happen. I did buy one of the releases that has the hobgoblin story, but I would want a complete season by seaon box set. I think besides Batman:TAS, this is one of the best animated cartoon series ever made. Much better than the Fox X-Men series (I never liked the animation and the voices were pretty awful, and it just felt wrong to me), and as has been said before, the way guest stars were included, and story arcs spanning multiple episodes was great! I also loved the animation.
Anyhow, I'm looking out for this to happen. When it does, they have a buyer.

I stopped watching this during the second season, when it was incorporating a *lot* of stuff ... Spidey losing his powers, getting six arms, Morbius the vampire, Blade the vampire hunter, Nick Fury ... I was digging it, but I couldn't stick to watching it each week, so I'd lose threads (plus, I think they, like the 'X-Men' cartoon, would air out of order sometimes). So I missed the Secret Wars one, which sounds pretty cool. I'd like to see DVDs, though I guess I could try to watch it on TV. I just expect I'd fall into the same trap again.
I love that Brady kid as Spider-Man, though.
And that awful, awful theme song ... "Spider blood, spider blood, radioactive spider blood ... Spider-man."

There was a sort-of three day marathon of this show last Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights. I watched some of it, but the show was less awesome than I remember it was (I was quite young when it first aired). Plus, they flashed back to when Peter got bit by the spider in 3 episodes that night, so it got kind of repetitive.

Another vote for season sets for this, great show.
triva: Theme song was performed by Joe Perry of Aerosmith. Lyrics were performed using a "talkbox" guitar effect, ala Sweet Emotion.

I know VCD's are frowned upon, but I actually own the entire series on VCD , but I would rebuy it in a heart beat, if they done season sets - I have done the same with Batman: Animated series, as I bought the VCDS / Columbia House sets and now WB's season set!
As far as what was the better series, I still think Bruce Timm's 'Batman' will always be the best, but 'SpiderMan' was great also. The only thing that hurt it was the later episodes, around season 3 the guest stars and plots got out of hand. One distinct series of episodes was called 'The Six Forgotten Warriors' and they was god awful. Same with any of the episodes starrin' the Marvel character Blade.
Oh and for the record, Mark Hamill's HobGoblin was the exact same voice as the Batman: Animated Series Joker character..Infact, I sometimes think he was trying to copy the person who done the Joker! :gasp:

I had no idea that Di$ney (
) owned the rights to those shows. I really hope they put them out but I'm really not that hopeful.
In general they really need to get cracking at releasing cartoon season sets. There is a market!

Maybe when Spiderman 3 comes out Disney will release them. I think the 67 series is doing well as I see fewer copies on store shelves since it's been released, hopefully they will crank them out...

The problem is that they seem to like to come out with theme discs instead. Spider-man:The Ultimate Villain Showdown has 4 episodes. Spider-man:The Return Of The Green Goblim has 4 episodes. Daredevil Vs. Spider-Man has 4 episodes. Spider-man Vs Doc Ock has 4 episodes. They are also going to release Spider-Man: The Venom Saga. The Cartoon only went 26 episodes. They have put out 16 episodes so far with 4 one the way. That only leaves six episode which they will probally release as two discs.
