I love both, but I would have to say Blazing Saddles.

Speaking of Young Frankenstein - I was watching it not too long ago and I had forgotten how freaking amazing Teri Garr looked when she was younger. Damn, she was sexy.

Very close, but Blazing Saddles is my favorite of the two, if only for the "hostage" scene.

Blazing Saddles or Young Frankenstein - the better film? (merged)

So I picked up Blazing Saddles last night - damn what a funny film - and while watching it with my roommates, we got discussing which was the better film Saddles or Young Frankenstein.

While I think Young Frankenstein has a stronger story, I thought that Blazing is WAY funnier. And since I'm watching a Mel Brooks film for the funny, at least in theory anyway, I had to defend it as the superior film.

Still, I thought I'd open it up to you guys for discussion - which is the superior film: Young Frankenstein or Blazing Saddles?

***ADDENDUM***

At least we can agree that since, oh about, Spaceballs Mel hasnt done a movie worth a damn - and even Spaceballs wasnt as good as his early stuff.

But then, in todays PC world, a movie like Saddles would NEVER get made - despite it making fun of white folks more than being a rasist vehicle.

I watched Blazing Saddles last week for the first time in quite a while. It just wasn't that funny to me anymore. I was surprised I had a hard time sitting through it. I still get a good laugh out of Young Frankenstein though.

How did I miss it? Oh, I dont know - the amazingly vauge subject header might have something to do with it. Or perhaps that the OP didnt actualy USE any words that would trip a search engine in the BODY of the freakin' post?

That might have had something to do with it.

Er, oook. So what if I didn't? What's it to you? I still posted pretty much the same exact thing. I guess we can close this one.

Or we could close the one with the vauge subject header. I know that clarity on the internet is often a taboo subject, but I like to be a trend-setter.

(Or point them both out to the mods and let them merge away)

Actually, I think they are different questions. I consider Blazing Saddles to be funnier, but Young Frankenstein is a better film.

Well usually, as has been the case at DVDTalk for a while, if a duplicate thread is created, it is usually the one that is closed. But whatever.

I tend to quote Blazing Saddles more than Young Frankenstein.

Blazing Saddles. Just like some of my favorite comedies, there is so much that can be gleaned from multiple viewings.

BTW--do we really need another thread about Blazing Saddles vs. Young Frankenstein?

I just watched Young Frankenstein last week and picked up the Blazing Saddles SE last week too.

So with both movies relativly fresh in my memory I have to say: Blazing Saddles.

Young Frankenstein has a better story and is a more complete film, but Blazing Saddles has more laughs IMO. I'll give the edge to Blazing Saddles, but either way Mel Brooks did a bangup job directing two classic movies in 1974(as did that Coppola fella).

I second that notion.
