Rapper DMX arrested in New York
NEW YORK (AP) -- Rapper and actor DMX was arrested on charges that he and another man tried to steal a car in a parking lot at Kennedy Airport, authorities said.
DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, and Jackie Hudgins were arrested Thursday night after Port Authority police interrupted a dispute between the two and another man whose car they allegedly tried to steal, authorities said.
A preliminary investigation indicated that Simmons, 34, may have identified himself as a federal agent, according to Tony Ciavolella, a Port Authority spokesman.
No one was hurt and no weapons were recovered, Ciavolella said.
Simmons and Hudgins were arrested on charges of attempted robbery, criminal impersonation and criminal mischief, he said. They were in custody and were expected to be taken to central booking in Queens late Thursday.
A message left for the company representing Simmons was not immediately returned Thursday night.
Simmons is the first artist to have his first five albums debut on the "Billboard" charts at No. 1.
The rapper was fined and ordered to make public service announcements for the Humane Society after police found pipes for smoking crack, a pistol and 13 pit bulls at his home in Teaneck, New Jersey, in 1999.
Simmons pleaded guilty to animal cruelty, disorderly conduct and possession of drug paraphernalia in that case.
DMX has acted in films including "Romeo Must Die," "Exit Wounds" and "Cradle 2 The Grave."

NEW YORK : Rapper and actor DMX faced a possible jail term of seven years after being charged Friday with criminal possession of a weapon and crack cocaine, as well as impersonating a federal agent.
According to the charges filed by the Queens District Attorney, DMX and a male friend Jackie Hudgins crashed through a parking lot exit gate at John F. Kennedy International Airport on Thursday evening, after the rapper falsely stated to the attendant that he was a federal agent.

A search of their vehicle recovered a billy club and a plastic bag containing multiple rocks of crack cocaine, according to authorities.
"The charges involve alarming and potentially dangerous conduct that resulted in damage to property and a threat to public safety," said District Attorney Richard Brown.
As well as the drug and weapon charges, DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was also charged with criminal impersonation and driving a vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Simmons, 33, and Hudgins, 41, were arrested by Port Authority police immediately after crashing through the parking lot gate.
The two men were in police custody, pending arraignment in Queens Criminal Court.
Simmons recently starred in the movie "Never Die Alone" opposite David Arquette and is working on a Saturday-morning cartoon entitled "Boomer," for his pet pit bull. He also has plans to star in the Broadway play "Cain and Abel."
His most recent album, "The Grand Champ," debuted at number-one upon its release in September.

Guess ol' Earl was pissed that no one was writing about him or his music, so he decided to get back in the headlines the easy way. I hope he likes the look of an orange jumpsuit and a jail cell.

I hate that ****ing reporters mix up jail and prison. Nobody spends seven years in jail after you are sentenced. You go to prison.

Rapper DMX has been slapped with additional charges, following his arrest on accusations he and another man tried to steal a car at New York's John F. Kennedy Airport.
The hip-hop star and associate Jackie Hudgins were released on $15,000 bail. DMX, real name Earl Simmons, was initially charged with attempted robbery and impersonating an officer.
Additional charges of menacing, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a weapon and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, were added on Friday, reports Web site AllHipHop.com. According to reports, the rapper told authorities he was rushing to catch a flight when another driver stopped him from parking his sports utility vehicle.
DMX flipped on flashing lights and a siren, which were illegally placed on the SUV and chased the man, crashing through a toll booth.
When police arrived, they found DMX trying to pull the driver out of his car. Port Authority police say DMX was "out of it" when they arrested him. The additional charges were added when police found crack cocaine, painkillers and a billy club in his vehicle.
DMX explained the painkillers were from an injury he received while filming a movie.
He was later treated for breathing problems at Queens Hospital Center and was taken to detox, before being booked.
He later caught a flight to Amsterdam, where he kicked of his European tour over the weekend

Prosecutors filed drug and weapons charges Friday against rapper DMX, a day after he was arrested for allegedly impersonating a federal agent and harassing another man in an airport parking lot.
DMX, 33, allegedly crashed his sport-utility vehicle, which prosecutors said was equipped with lights and sirens, through a parking lot gate at New York's Kennedy Airport after telling the attendant to let him leave because he was a government agent.
The complaint also said that the rapper, whose real name is Earl Simmons, ordered a driver at an adjacent parking lot to get out of his vehicle. When the man refused, Simmons allegedly identified himself as an FBI agent, grabbed the driver's seat belt buckle and tried to pull him from the vehicle.
Simmons, 33, and a friend, Jackie Hudgins, 41, were arrested shortly afterward, said prosecutor Richard Brown. Police found a billy club and rocks of crack cocaine in the vehicle, Brown said.
According to court documents, Simmons claimed he had been cut off by the other car. Hudgins said he had tried to calm Simmons down, and that if he had paid the $9 parking fee the incident would not have happened.
Hudgins said he had given Simmons the $9 to pay the fee, court documents said. Prosecutors said that when Simmons was taken into custody he had hundreds of dollars of cash on him.
Both men were charged with criminal possession of a weapon and controlled substance. Simmons is also charged with criminal mischief, impersonation, menacing, driving under the influence and endangering the welfare of a child because the driver's 13-year-old daughter was in the car at the time.
The men face up to seven years in prison if convicted. Simmons and Hudgins were arraigned in Queens Criminal Court late Friday before Judge Stephen Knopf, who set bail of $15,000. They were scheduled to return to court on July 23.
A message left for Simmons' lawyer was not immediately returned. It was not immediately clear if Hudgins had hired a lawyer
