Can you guys help me pick out the best dvd player under $100?

I have been researching but I keep running into good things/bad things about certain players.

I am looking at a Sony NS325 B, but I have read reviews of it dying out in 6-12 months.

What players do you guys recommend, im looking for a good dvd player to last me at least 2-3 years. TV is a 27 inch flat screen.

From what I can tell, if you don't need the advanced features, e.g., X-Y scaling & easy all-region, there is not much difference between them. there are a number of very good low-priced model out there with DVI/Progessive under $100 and many with different labels are all made in the same factory with the same components. Lots of the very good Sony stuff is farmed out.

I have nothing but good things to say about my Sony DVPS315. I bought it over 2 years ago for $150 and have yet to have a single problem with it. I chose this model after much dissapointment with an Apex (the old saying you get what you pay for applies here) & a Panasonic (if a dvd had even the slightest scratch, it would recognize it).

Today you can basacially get a higher end version of the same player (w. progressive scan) for under $90 @ good ole Wal Mart.

I love my Toshiba SD-4900. DVD-A compat, allregion, PAL, buttons on the front, very slim, and superb image quality.

I love my Toshiba 4900, too. It has some flaws (doesn't remember place in the movie when turned off, crashes on loading media from time to time), but it's features are top-notch for the price. The PAL-NTSC conversion is excellent

I will second this player as I got one for a third player in my home theater because I wanted a quality player that can convert PAL DVD's to NTSC for viewing on my HDTV. It not only has very good Progressive picture but is one of the few DVD players out there that can correctly convert Anamorphic PAL DVD's to NTSC and not screw up the aspect ratio. The player can be had for around $65.

Gonna third this recommendation. I love mine and recommend it to all my friends as they slowly upgrade their TV's and need a progressive scan player. My one beef is that it's silver and the rest of my stuff is black. How sad is it that the color of the player irks me?

how about recommendations for players that are currently available at most retailers? while i love my toshiba 4900 and my pioneer 563A, neither are widely available, if available at all anymore.

any comments on how the philips 642 stacks up against the current entry level toshiba, pioneer, panasonic, jvc, etc? i'm looking to pick up a player for my in-laws summer home.
