Hell in the Pacific subtitles
Was the Lee Marvin/Tashiro Mifune film originally shown without any subtitles at all? The new DVD features subtitles that translate all the english and japanese dialogue. It doesn't seem right that we should know what Mifune is saying. How was this film originally exhibeted?

I don't believe the original had them (atleast I know the DVD didn't). WRT whether or not they should be there... they are optional
