Need help on a HD TV?

I have to buy a new TV very soon, since my other one went out. I am looking into buying a HDTV, but I don't know much about them. I don't have a lot of HD programming in my area, but I would like to use the progressive scan dvd player I have.
I am looking at a Philips 30 16x9 HDTV, Sanyo 30" 16x9 HDTV and a Philips 32" HDTV not widescreen. Which would you choose?
One last thing. With a 16x9 TV, do the blackbars go away on widescreen movies? Plus what does a regular TV show look like on a widescreen TV? I don't live anywhere close to a Bestbuy to look at these things. I will have to buy my TV at Wal-Mart.

nope not necessarily, if the dvd doesn't say something like anamorphic ws 'enchanced for 16x9' or a aspect ratio like 1:85:1 or something then u gonna have bars at the top and bottom

for regular programming you'll get thick gray bars on the sides, or you can usee the wide zoom or full screen mode on the tv if you hate the bars

I will have to buy my TV at Wal-Mart.
If that were the case I would consider buying online.

I have no personal vendetta against WM, but they sell crappy TVs. Buy online. Heck, you may even get free shipping from some places.

Let's do this. Tell us your price range, and we'll do some legwork for you

Does your cable provider offer digital cable? If so, the box can act as a HD reciever (with an HD package).

other hdtv sets can be had for ~ $800

instead of digital cable consider directv...

HD directv Receiver $299 + free installation

bout $100 cheaper than most off air HD tuners
