Connecting DVD Player to 5.1 Receiver

I'm sure this question has been asked a million times before and I apologize if there was already a thread about it. Is it better to use the Optical Digital Audio output or all the 5.1 audio outputs when connecting the DVD Player to the Receiver? Thanks in advance for all the help.

Generally it's better to use the digital connection as your receiver should have better digital to analog converter and low-level audio sections.
