please DVDtalk..stop the pop-ups

After a fresh install, spyware blockers, and the google toolbar (w/ pop-up blocker) I come to see the threads and immediately get hit with some 'Free IPOD' (with sign-up of course). Why are you employing tactics to force these ads on people that have said they are not wanted by taking positive steps to block them?

First off, many of the pop-unders... and they are POP-UNDERS come from ad networks, so we're not doing anything to defeat pop-up blockers.

Secondly, we do provide a toolbar (see my sig) which should block our pops...

Thirdly, by registering with DVDTalk, you agreed NOT to use any pop-up blockers (other than the one in Geoff's signature). By trying to block pop-ups, you are violating the terms of the registration.

"Why are you employing tactics to force these ads on people?"

Because the site needs to make money. Bandwidth, servers, time and effort, it's not all free. Ads make the site money. Therefore, you have to see ads. It's part of the Internet. Live with it.

Why don't you just host this site on GeoCities?

I don't have any popup blockers for this site, and I don't think I've seen any pop ups for months? Just a few rich media ones.

I haven't noticed any thing either myself recently (DVDTalk is enabled for Pop-Ups and any other ads that might come my way).

As a side editorial, however, I should say that pop-unders are just as annoying as pop-ups...if not more so.

I'm not complaining, since I realise they pay for the site, but although there is a technical difference between pop ups and pop unders, in all reality they're the same thing
