Madden 2005 Collector's Edition for PS2

http://www.gamespot.com/news/2004/06...s_6099841.html

Electronic Arts has today announced that it will release a Collector's Edition of Madden NFL 2005 exclusively for the PS2 in August. The $59.95 Collector's Edition, which celebrates the popular series' 15th year, will ship with what can only be described as a lot of Madden-related goodness not included with the regular version of the game.

In addition to the regular version of Madden NFL 2005 in limited edition collectible packaging, the Collector's Edition will include: playable classic versions of Madden from the 16-bit era and two from the PlayStation era, a Madden trivia challenge with over 1000 questions, "Madden Moments" spanning the past 15 seasons, and historical playoff teams from the past 15 years--each with their authentic uniforms. Other goodies exclusive to the Collector's Edition will include: bonus video content including footage of "The Madden Phenomenon", "The Music of Madden", and a documentary looking into how the game is developed every year from scratch.

Online play using the Madden NFL 2005 Collector's Edition will, of course, be compatible with the regular PS2 version of the game. Online play will also feature in the Xbox and PC versions scheduled for release in August and September respectively.

That sounds quite cool if you're into Madden like that. I always wait and buy the year old version for like $10 bucks and update once every two or three years, but for the Maddenaholics? A no brainer.

Is this only because Xbox will have Madden live this year as well? Now the PS2 has nothing 'exclusive' to it? Personally, if I ever played a sports game, I would still get the Xbox version just because I don't need a memory card to save, custom soundtracks (I think), and I prefer Xbox Live (downloadable content?) to PS2 Online. Its cool though that they will include some retro Maddens...I just don't think most people will play those.

The retro teams on the exclusive will suck if they are not on the regular XBox version. The other stuff might be cool for 20 seconds though, I will stick to the XBox version this year.

I think that's exactly it, just a way to get people with multiple systems to buy the PS2 version. Plus a way to get some extra money from "collectors" who have to have the "best" version of stuff.

As I said when I reported the news on this on the site I work for, I think having old 16-bit versions of Madden to play would be cool. I loved when the ambulance rammed right into the player that was injured on the field. Pure hilarity! Then the report would come back that the player was only out for the quarter and you thought, "Man, he's one tough SOB!"

Tough sell. I've waited for them to get on Xbox live and now this.

You can basically get the 16bit versions for $10 if you buy the PSX 200x versions from Target.

PS2 exclusive.

However, I may still buy it. I think NCAA 2005 will be plenty of online football for me on ye ol' XBox.

That would be the 32 Bit versions. 16bit= SNES and Genesis. They can be found cheap as well, on ebay and at used game stores.

I'm in on this. Is anybody preordering it yet?

edit: I should rephrase that to "Does anyone know where we can preorder this?" Not that I don't care if you have preordered it, really I do......

15 EA games will be Live enabled. The sports games, Goldeneye 2, TimeSplitters 3, Burnout 3, Need for Speed Underground 2, etc.

And as someone noted, NCAA will be the first one the middle of next month.

yeah the 16 bit games dont bother me, becuase they are not playable online if they were I would want it, but if the retro teams are not on the xbox version that just sucks, wasn't EA thinking about doing this to PC gamers(extra content if you hada nvidia card) not a PC gamer but it still sucks.

but I have a feeling that either the CE or the regular edition will be worth some money on the collector circuit in about 10 years, when every try to collect past games, like they do now for nes snes, gen.

there was an exclusive madden for genesis that now reaches upwards of $75 to $100 on ebay becuase it was a CE, through BB

I remember that, I think it was called Madden: Special Edition or something like that. One of my friends rented it and then "lost" it. He ended up getting charged like $150.

One of the classic 16-bit games was playable on a recent version of the PlayStation (not PS2) games-Madden 2002 if I'm not mistaken. I think that's what he's referring to.

I hope the documentary and other video content will be on a separate, standard DVD playable in any player, but I don't expect it to be that way.
