Stir of Echoes: Special Edition August 17th

From DVDfile:
Next from Artisan comes a new Stir of Echoes special edition on August 17th, which includes an anamorphic widescreen transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround track, plus a mix of extras new and old: audio commentary with stars Kevin Bacon, Kathryn Erbe and Illeana Douglas, the "Hypnotism," "Special Effects" and "Screen Tests" featurettes, additional screen test clips, deleted scenes, storyboard comparisons, and theatrical trailers. List price will retail for $19.95.

I just saw that and was about to post it... does anyone know why they are doing this though? I mean it seems like an odd movie to reissue a SE for out of the blue. Is there a sequel or something coming up?

I was surprised to see this also! But it's a welcome surprise, I love this movie.

Since ARTISAN was recently bought by Lion's Gate, they may have seen it as a good idea to re-do the previous version. The first one was good, but not great. This version looks much better. It's missing the director commentary though. I'll have both versions.

I don't mind the double-dip for a movie I like.... but I really hate it when something worthwhile is dropped from the original DVD.

I would buy it if it has english subtitles and if not, I'm hope the captions work, the orginal DVD captions screwed up big time.

If the transfer and sound are the same, the original version I own is fine with me.

I agree....

I believe the first release is anamorphic widescreen so there will be no double dip here.

I love it! I probably will double dip because its selling for about $12 online right now. It may even be cheaper in store. I will wait for a review but will prob get this. I liked it alot more than 6th sense and it has gotten alot of play at my house.

Has anybody reviewed the new DVD? Is it worth a double dip?

I was tempted to sell my original and upgrade when I heard about this a month ago, but then I realized that the original was Anamorphic Widescreen (even though the case incorrectly states "16:9 Fullscreen Version").

Decent movie, but not worth an upgrade.

Is it really missing the commentary? The screen shots printed elsewhere in this topic seem to indicate that a commentary exists. Is it a different one? Are any other features lost?

Odd....The box lists it as having the old commentary, but NOT the new one with Bacon & Erbe, as mentioned by DVDfile.
