SONY DVPN575S - is this region free?

I just bought this player the other night. It says in the booklet that it plays "all region" movies. My tv doesn't support PAL. I was wondering if there was anything I can do to watch a movie from another region on this player. Is there some sort of converter I can get? Thanks in advance

No, it means it plays movies that are region-free, not movies from any region.

Sony DVD players are very hard to modify. Sonyowns one of the major movie studios and has an inherrent interest in enforcing region coding.

Is the Toshiba 4900 a player that I should get if I want to watch a movie in a region other than 1?

One of many that can be hacked to all region. IMHO, it's the best hackable out there. Some say the Phillips, and they aren't wrong, but I think the Toshiba has better picture quality and does very nice NTSC to Pal anamorphic conversion.

I didn't see on the online store, but has anyone seen the Toshiba 4900 in a Best Buy B&M lately? The only place I have found this player so far is amazon...$69.99

I picked mine up from BB a few months back when they were closing out stock on the 4900 so I highly doubt you're going to be able to find one there.

My toshiba player is overly sensitive to DVD-R, and will freeze up on me periodically. FYI.
