Apex AD-1500 Jams and Scratches Discs

I'm having a problem with one of my DVD players. My Apex stalls when I put a disc in with a black screen on my TV and a non-changing display in the display box on the DVD player. None of the buttons on the DVD player respond so I end up having to turn off my DVD player with the on/off switch and when I push eject to get the disc out before it can be loaded and jam, it sounds like its grinding the disc. It doesn't do alot of damage but *I think* it does some.

I have had the DVD player for a couple years and hacked it to be region free when I bought it. Often times my DVD player runs for a day or more at a time with a DVD on pause or on a menu.

Thank you if you can help.

Sounds like you have run the DVD into the ground. APEX isn't know for their reliability in the first place. I remember this model. You were lucky to get three years out of it.

Your Apex is at the end of it's life, consider it a good run and move on. There are much better inexpensive players out there that are easily made region free. Apex's are like hamsters, they die quickly and easily, yours sounds like it's a had a full rich life.

If you can find one check out the Toshiba SD 3900 or SD 4900. Both are easily hackable (see thread in International forum) and can be found for $99 or less. Their sound and picture quality has been compared to $600 players, something that old Apex only dreams about. Also, even if your player was still running strong, so many advancements have been made in the last couple of years I'd still suggest upgrading because most new players will outshine anything from a few years ago.
