In the fall of 1986, an unsuspecting TV nation met a new kind of comedy hero who made Rambo look like Pee Wee Herman. David Rasche starred as the trigger-happy lawman whose hatred of criminal scum and yogurt eatin' creeps was matched only by his love of excessive force and a .44 Magnum. Over the next two seasons, this hilariously deranged lampoon of DIRTY HARRY and plenty of other targets became one of the most notorious series in television history and launched a rabid cult of fans that grows to this day. This is SLEDGE HAMMER!
The complete first season of SLEDGE HAMMER! is now newly re-mastered (including removal of the laugh track) and loaded with an arsenal of exclusive extras that features uncensored footage, all-new interviews with stars David Rasche, Harrison Page and Anne-Marie Martin, audio commentaries and more, all given the "Hammer" seal of approval by Series Creator & Executive Producer Alan Spencer.
Includes a Special Collector's Booklet with Liner Notes
Debuting on July 27th, as we previously reported, the SRP of this release is $39.98 for 534 minutes of Hammer-time. Video is in the original full frame aspect ratio for all 22 first-season episodes. Here is the disc-by-disc breakdown of the extras:
Disc 1:
Audio Commentary with Creator Alan Spencer
Disc 2:
Audio Commentary with Creator Alan Spencer
Disc 3:
None
Disc 4:
Audio Commentary with Creator Alan Spencer
TV Spots
SLEDGE HAMMER: Go Ahead, Make Me Laugh! -- an all new 32 minute documentary featuring interviews with Creator/Producer Alan Spencer, and actors David Rasche, Anne-Marie Martin and Harrison Page
Unaired Pilot Episode
Electronic Press Kit
Original TV Bumper
Alan Spencer's Message to Critics
Still & Memorabilia Gallery
HBO Pilot Script
ABC Pilot Script
16-Page "Sledge Files" with Color Photos and Liner Notes
Sweet! Spencer's 4 commentary tracks are reportedly to be uncut and unedited, so it will be fascinating to listen in on these. Interest in this release is so high that Sledge Hammer! - Season 2 is already being planned. Stay tuned, and we'll have more info on that as soon as we can get it. Trust us, we know what we're doing!

I AM FREAKIN STOKED. I was way too young to see the show when it first aired, but my dad had a tape with four of the episodes on it. I could watch that tape over and over.
When he pulls out the bazooka and blows up the building just to stop the sniper on the roof, oh man, too funny. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Updated to add news link from www.tvshowsondvd.com
The most interesting news site is actually the official Sledge site, as it has photos of the documentrary, etc, but yes, I also post information from the great and most accurate, tvshowsondvd.com
I actually e-mailed them the cover art for Sledge a couple weeks before they posted it, but I never heard back from them, nor did they post it until yesterday. Maybe it was a copyright issue.

I can not wait for this one. Also as I sent a couple of tapes to Anchor Bay to help put this release together, I am getting a free copy.
Alan posted that it would be signed as well.
Not that Im the only one as a few people helped to track down episodes without the laugh track.

That would be Anne Marie Martin (in her early days, her name was Eddie Benton, and was a one of the many girls killed in the cult classic Prom Night).
Another random fact is that she was a co-writer for the popcorn classic Twister, with her then husband Michael Crichton.

Got mine today (thanks DDD!)... very nice set. I really like the packaging. I wished more companies would use that. I have only had the chance to watch one episode, but it seems to have held up pretty well.

one of the best shows ever broadcast. Had the unfortunate luck of being pitted against the best-rated shows of its day so it only made it 2 seasons... but I cant wait to pick up season 1 on tuesday!

lol, i was readin the review about this set and I remember one time watching the show that I blew coke out my nose. It was the one where they were spoofing die hard and hammer and durough (sp im sure) get to the roof and shes like "hammer, a flare gun, signal that helicopter"... of course, hammer grabs the flare gun, fires it and next thing you know the chopped is a ball of flame crashing into the ground. lol!!!
such a great show.
