I find it funny that.....on bonus features

Hey all,

I find it funny that on many, if not all, dvd's, Scene selection, and interactive menus are considered Bonus Features....haha

It's really, really sad that when you look on the back of a dvd and the only bonus features are The two i mentioned above... Oh, and sometimes if you are lucky, they'll list english language as a bonus feature...

Just my $4.34,

Matt

I guess that started with the very first DVDs, and think about it - you couldn't do a "scene selection" with a VHS tape, so it was indeed a "special feature".

The movie is the feature, anything else is a bonus. It is that simple.

They're the kinds of things you don't think of as bonus features until you buy a DVD that doesn't have menus and/or chapter stops (yeah, David Lynch, I'm looking at you on that second one).

I agree on that one, just finished up the Samura Jack set and the episodes have no chapter stops, don't miss it until it's gone .

Chapter stops? Heck, I would have liked a menu on "Destroy all Monsters." Hands down the barest DVD I've ever seen.

Let us not forget the pathetic and failed attempt at cleverness with Blue Underground's release of Snuff. Menus and scene access should be on all DVD's. It is not clever or funny to leave them off.

The DVD studio may think these are bonus features - but most DVD reviewers don't. If all a DVD has is a main menu and a chapter selection, it gets Zero stars from me in the "Extras" rating.

Definitely, interactive menus and scene selections ARE NOT special features.

I myself don't really care for special features but it does get on my nerves when I see these types of things listed under the special features that are printed on the backs of keep cases.

Nothing beats the "Jacob's Ladder" DVD for special feature listing. You guys know what I'm talking about. Reverse Spiral Dual Layered Disc, Spanish Subtitles, 16:9 Widescreen, Theatrical Trailer, etc. They list every little thing you can think of as a special feature, and then forget to list the hour-long documentary and the deleted scenes and stuff like that.

I think it must have been intended to mess with out minds or something.

On some discs, it'd be a bonus if they had NO menus- I just wanna watch the damn thing, not play a video game!!

I find it funny that people have been making this same dumb observation for 6 years now.

I was going to say that, but then I realized people have been using that response for the past 5 years now.

Didn't some of the early Disney titles list "Full color artwork on disc" as a special feature??

An opposing opinion isn't the same as a threadcrap.
