The 2004 singles thread

This is where we mention really great singles as we hear them. I haven't kept up this year so I only have a couple.

LCD Soundsystem - "Yeah (Stupid Version)"
Britney Spears - "Toxic"
Ghostface - "Tush"
Electrelane - "On Parade"
Loretta Lynn - "Portland, Oregon"

I think that the first two will maintain their spots throughout the year. I just heard that Loretta Lynn single today but my, my is it delicious.

IMHO, Britney Spears isn't even hot. I just think that "Toxic" is the only good song that she has ever had on the radio (I can't speak for the non-single tracks because I've never heard an entire album). It helps that her only good song on the radio happens to be an amazing song by any standard.

Modest Mouse "Float On"

That's about it. I don't listen to much radio and they never play videos on MTV.

To my knowledge, James Murphy hasn't even so much as mentioned an LCD Soundsystem full length. He's content to just release singles (which might be a smart move).

NME mentioned a summer release of a full length, but it just seemed like a casual off the wall news blurb that it didn't come across as concrete - that's why I asked.

James recorded the LCD album in Chicago in December and January, but he decided to scrap the whole thing because it was too "punchy, warm, and tight." He's travelling back and forth between NYC and CHI at the moment redoing the whole thing. It probably will not be released until the fall at the very earliest; more likely next spring. Not to mention that he's busy recording the new Liquid Liquid album (!!).

As far as singles are concerned:

Britney, "Toxic"
Alicia, "You Don't Know My Name"
Alicia, "You Don't Know My Name (Reggae Mix)"
LCD, "Yeah"
Usher, "Yeah"
J-Kwon, "Tipsy"
Mario Winans, "I Don't Wanna Know"
Kanye, "All Falls Down"
Ying Yang Twins, "Salt Shaker"

She was a finalist on American Idol last year who has a single out that I think is excellent. One of the few "pop" songs I've liked in recent years.

yeah its a cover of the the Pink Floyd song - it's kind of cringe-indusing if your a Pink Floyd fan but after awhile the new version gets stuck in your head and sets your toes a tappin'.

I'm really excited to hear about this. Is there any word on a Delia Gonzalez and Gavin Russom full-length? I've been looking around for a copy of that January released 12" with little luck. Was it a limited pressing?

Not to mention that he's busy recording the new Liquid Liquid album (!!).
This is the best news of the whole damn thread. Is Soul Jazz putting it out?

-edit-

And on a side note, how annoying is it that you can only get the Scissor Sisters album on import? They're based out of NYC, for christ's sake. I hope that they sell some copies at the show.

DFA is putting out the Liquid Liquid record. They started recording back in February.

Is the Delia & Gavin 12" out yet? I wasn't sure if it had been released. It's really, really wonderful. Full length is a ways off, but it's great. Even better: the Juan Maclean full length. So satisfying.

Yeah, the DFA site says that it came out on the same day as the "Yeah" 12". This guy, hstencil*, said that Delia and Gavin had/are having (?) a record release party in April? He didn't provide a date, though, and it may have been word of mouth.

When does the Juan Maclean drop?

*Maybe you know him? I think he lives in Brooklyn and he's on ILM.

Yeah, I'm friends with hstencil. I don't think the full length is coming out anytime soon. As for the Juan Maclean, it doesn't have a label as yet. DFA are shopping it around. Could be a year or so.

You should definitely buy the Automato record, by the way. DFA's lone hip-hop production work. Just came out. Really, really great (and two years old!).

one would hope so, since the current exchange is really shitty and I don't want to pay an arm and a leg for Amazon.co.uk to ship me a copy.

Is it from a new album, that b-side complication, or Riot Act?
