This is also coming in R1 from Wellspring on April 20. The specs seem to be nearly the same but include an additional short film ("Psy-show") in place of the soundtrack commercial.

I like the cover better, too.

Can you elaborate on the issue you are talking about....I am not sure what you are trying to ponit out here....they are both Anamorphic....are you saying that the US version is PAL to NTSC port?

The USA disc's image is poor IMO. I don't know the technical side of these things but it looks as if the image is shot on video (and running too fast) with the Pal to NTSC source. Not a proper conversion. I've had this before with Wellspring releases.

Other than that (which is major) it's anamorphic, has a few short films and a commentary.

The Region 2 French disc is the best image-wise, then. Couldn't find this at Amazon.fr oddly. it is here

The French poster is superior:

The film has some horrible scenes. Reminded me of Cronenberg.

Daniel,

I am aware of this trend as well. Most obvious example...PLACE VENDOME....most certainly PAL to NTSC port.

HOWEVER, I would like to hear from someone that actually owns the US disc and has seen the French one that this is indeed a PAL port. Do you have the R1 disc?

I have not reviewed this disc yet so it will be coming up soon....

Yes, I have the NTSC disc -or I'd not of commented in such detail

I have seen the PAL disc too and there's not a problem. Both discs are very similar content-wise so I'd minded to think direct port.

No problem with my setup either as my DVD has NTSC out to NTSC TV or PAL to PAL TV etc etc.

The last Wellspring disc I had with this problem was Friday Night (Vendredi soir). There were other problems with that transfer. I've read very mixed views.

I've only ever seen this with 5-6 DVDs from Region 1. It looks bad. I think Wellspring are well intentioned but are either lazy or stupid.

Daniel,

With all due respect I dont think that this is enough of an evidence for you to claim that the R1 disc is a PAL to NTSC port. Unless, you claim that you have seen "ghosting" which is the most common effect that usually is associated with improper conversion. In your post I dont see such indication. Perhaps I am missing something....

I dont have the R1 version as of yet so I can not comment on it. Determining the source of the DVD however is a rather easy process if "ghosting" is indeed present.

For the sake of making this clear (at least to me)...have you seen "ghosting" on the R1 disc or not?

(If you are unfamiliar with it, though I am sure you are, refer to DVDBEAVER''s review of the Canadian version of the PIANIST which is a rather extreme example of it).

Yes, I would have to say it has 'ghosting'.

Let's see what other people say who have it.

The Canadian Pianist is far worse and in the top handful of bad DVDs I've seen.

Thank's Daniel...now this is loud and clear.

Next step: Whoever else has the R1 version please confirm the "ghosting" or comment on it.

I wont be revewing this disc until later this month but my curiosity is now aroused.
