30 Nintendo DS (new handheld) titles on display at E3

Here is the story:

From PlanetGamecube

Sounds pretty interesting. Who knows what stage of completion they will be in though. I didn't know about the touch panel either. Interesting to say the least.

I'll preface this by saying I'm a big Nintendo guy, but this thing will either be really cool or really suck. I don't know if there will be any middle ground.

/\ agreed.

I wonder how many titles will be "remixes" where they just show a menu screen on the other screen?

Good Call. I hadn't even thought of that yet.

That's good news - it'll keep the crowds down in the other areas. Nintendo's booth wasn't as stuffed last year as it was the year before... maybe it'll be packed again this year.

I wonder of those 30 E3 titles, how many will be ready for launch? A new GCN peripheral is supposed to make an appearance at E3 also-besides arguably the DS. There's talk now that the DS may plug into serial port 2 on the GCN too.

Is this thing supposed to compete with Sony's offering?

Not positive, but I think I read somewhere that it's not, and they have another handheld planned for that.

The PSP seems like rehash to me. DS seems like innovation.

Seems like a pointless gadget. PSP is the next generation, this thing is just weird.

I actually like quirky pointless gadgets, so maybe this is for me. I'm probably more interested to see what they come up with to go up against the PSP.

Both are pointless for me as I have no need for portable gaming.

I think the DS could be more interesting IMO if they find any non-gimmicky/lame ways to to use the 2 screens together, as the PSP's just going to be more mostly crappy (IMO) 3D games like we have on the current consoles with graphics probably not quite as good.

Wow thank god game developers dont listen to you, otherwise we'd all be starving for a portable gaming fix. Think you can also look into your crystal ball and tell us how the world ends?

Don't be pretentious.

3D games are the rage now, and that's what we'll see on the PSP, and probably the DS as well.

There's been very few 2D games outside of the GB/GBA since the 16 bit era.

Thus, saying the PSP is going to be mostly 3D games (which I think are 95% suck) isn't akin to predicting how the world will end.

I have to jump on with Josh on this one. I really don't see the appeal of portable gaiming.

I like to be part of reality when I'm outside. I don't want to have my head turned down looking at some console playing there version of a game with terrible graphics.

I can understand kids in a long road trip, but considering the fact that I drive and seldomly ever a passanger with any ability to play those games I just don't find them interesting.

Besides that the graphics are really outdated and only offer a nostoglia to the old days of 16 bit gaming.

I think there is really to much portable gaming now a days. Oh well, I suppose this product just isn't for me to begin with.

I admit 2D gaming is all but dead but you cant honestly tell me that because the games "may" be in 3D the entire system will suck. Have you seen any of these games? I sure as hell havent, what makes you think ALL the games will be 3D? Yeah a lot of developers make the leap from 2D to 3D and sometimes failing, but they at least have to try. A lot of my favorite games are 2D am I sad that they may never be seen again? Yeah but the fact that I own them and can play them when I feel like it doesnt mean its "dead". I dont have a strong opinion about the PSP or the DS Im waiting until I see something before I condem the system or the games that "may" appear on them, maybe you should do the same.

Did I say the system would suck? No. I said in my personal opinion most 3D games suck and it's 100% certain that most games on the PSP will be in 3D.

Thus, combined with my lack of interest in portable gaming, it's pointless to me.

Either or both may be great systems for people that like the types of games on the current consoles.

And I agree about 2d gaming not technically dead, I play my SNES all the time, and have a GBA player to get the few decent new 2D games coming out. But I'm not the type to play games over and over, so it's pretty dead to me other than occasionaly picking up something I haven't played in 5 years or so.

It's just the way the industry is going. Technology always advances, and in this case I don't like the end product as well as I did the old. In a way it's a good thing as I don't have much time for gaming anymore.
