Review wanted: Tim (Mel Gibson) DVD
Are there any reviews for Tim with Mel Gibson and Piper Laurie as released on DVD by "Platinum disc corporation" in 2003? Its UPC is 096009165796.
I don't expect a great transfer for a $5.99 DVD by a company I've never heard of, but as long as it's better than VHS with no distracting flaws I could live with it. Hopefully Platinum is not like Good Times or Madacy in terms of quality.
Of course DVD-Basen did not locate a review for this, and I can't search for something like "Tim + Mel + Gibson + DVD + review" on this site because 3-letter-word searches are not allowed.

...for a mere $5.99 you expect a review of the DVD...?... having watched this on TV oh so many years ago, all I can tell you is that the movie itself cloys --- but it must be said that Mel never looked cuter...!...

I've never seen the Platinum version, but I did see one several years ago (Simitar? Direct somethingorother?) that was watchable.
Audio was hollow sounding and the picture was very washed out. But it wasn't full of compression artifacts or major print damage.
Sorry I can't be more help, but I imagine that the Platinum edition will at least be watchable (and worth six bucks, if you like the film). Many of their other DVDs are pretty decent, for public domain/budget stuff.

Like bboisvert mentioned, the sound and picture are rather poor, and the movie itself is REALLY dated. But if you can get past all that, it's a sweet story. And both Gibson and Laurie are quite good in it.
