GameCube Gameboy Player Add-On ?

I have GameCube and my daughter has Gameboy Advance SP.

She wants to get the add-on so she can play her Gameboy games on my GC.

I know it goes onto the bottom of the GC and it's $50.00
I heard something about a start-up disk.

Can someone explain how it works ?
For example, do I have to do anything different to play a GC game ?
What do you have to do to play a GBA game ?

Yeah, the Gamecube Adapter goes on the bottom of the Cube, and a Boot Disc is required to play the GBA games. It's a white CD that you pop in the top, and the game goes down below.

If you want to play a normal GC game, just pop out the boot CD and pop in your game, you can leave the gameboy player on the GC.

There is also a cheaper one made my the same company that makes the Action Replays. It goes for about $30.

although $50 is a bit steep, i think it's a very good accessory. i play a lot of the gba games on the gc.

don't forget the the slider on the right side that POPS out the cartridge.

i didn't know about the action replay model.

It is worth it - the integration is really nice (dunno about the AR version). I really enjoyed Golden Sun on the big screen! If I'm home, there's no reason not to be playing my GBA games on my Cube!

I bought the action replay version and it did not work as advertised.

I found an open box GC Player at Best Buy for $22! Great addition to my GC.

Yeah, stay away from the Action Replay Game Boy Player. It hooks up through the 2nd memory card slot of the Gamecube. I had it, and a lot of the GBA games were choppy/unplayable. It also doesn't support multiplayer with link cables.

I thought it was going to be a problem at first, but the broadband adaptor fits into the casing of the Cube, so this device doesn't affect it either.

We've got this, though I haven't used it in ages. I do remember being pretty impressed with the graphics on the TV screen though.

The AR version worked fine for me. I was going to buy the $50 one but Best Buy was sold out so they recommended the cheaper one.

The Game Boy Player is a fantastic accessory. I hardly ever touch my Game Boy itself anymore.

Same here, by a long shot.

I bought a GBA to play great, SNES style 2D games, not for portablity.

The games look great (even in full screen mode) and play much better with the GC controller than the cramped GBA IMO.

I've been debating getting a Cube for the Mega Man games, but I've also wanted to get a GBA SP. Will this add-on play all Gameboy games or just the gameboy advance games? Thanks for the info.

From what I've heard the $30 version doesn't play Gameboy Color or regular Gameboy carts so I would just stick with the normal one if you have some older games. This is also my favorite accessory.

I guess I'm in the minority that prefers playing most games on my SP than on the GB Player.

I don't really think it's an either/or situation. We have three GBAs in our household between my wife and me, and we also have the player. Sometimes you want the bigscreen, sometimes you want to play on the throne.

Yes it is great and if you like mario, it brings back the good old days to lol.
also can use it and the game boy adv and play battle games to getter but as far as I know u can't with the other one for $ 30.00 and some games like mario were you need two gameboy adv to use the e-reader. so if I was u I would go with the $ 50.00 u will like it better my 9 year daughter loves her hamtro and pokemon games on it to.

Not at all. I had a GBA and got the Player instead of an SP. Wound up getting an SP anyway. I hardly ever touch the GB Player, and I have a matching Indigo one as well as a controller convertor so I can use the PS2 controller (which is much better for GBA games than the somewhat misplaced directional pad or the analog stick), yet I still stick with the SP. I think the light is nicer and I like portability, even if I'm in my own room. It's convenient to be able to switch positions.

Honestly though, it probably has a little to do with me at college and never much interested in carting my systems here.
