What is Best Buy's employee discount?

I was thinking about applying to work at Best Buy and was wondering if anyone knew what the discount employees get is. Thanks.

I've read in the forum people mention it varies from product to product.

Right, cost is going to be different for each product, i guess no two items have the same cost.

You get 5% over cost for all items is what we are told. Only thing is there have been rumors that they might change the way that employee discounts are done. That would suck as that is the only reason that I work there now.

From what I have heard you actually pay cost above 5% for the price it would cost Best Buy to order only one of a product. You don't get the price of what the store ACTUALLY paid.

My uncle works there, so he gets me a deal sometimes. There is almost no markup on DVDs or CDs, so practically no discount there. Same with computers. But if you want cables, great, because there is a huge markup on them.

How much markup is there for Monster Cables?

Cables are about 1/2 price for employees.
I had someone buy some awhile back.

Also car stereo systems $300+ can have a big mark up

Installation is like almost 75% off for employees

Percentage wise there is probably more of a markup for the other brands such as Acoustic Research, but since Monster is so expensive it just seems like a bigger discount.

I was in there yesterday looking at a Zenith LCD Flat panel. I think the price was $1,803. Any idea what the employee discount might be on that TV or TVs in general? Thanks for the info?

That's like 25% off? Is that roughly the percentage BB employees get on electronics?

When i worked there it was cost price + 10% on everything except dvds (which we were told isn't marked up much so there is no discount)

But this is Best Buy Canada

I haven't worked at Best Buy for a few years so they may have raised the 5% to 10%.

Ok, sorry to propogate this further but I have to ask, what would the price be on the 50" Samsung DLP tv? It lists in their store for $3,500.

I wonder if it would be worth it to have an employee buy it for me and split the difference.

If I remember right it was just over $2300 for the 50" DLP.

And it is still 5% over cost for the discount, although they have changed the discount on the service plans to a flat 30% off. Looks like I won't be buying these any longer.
