Tech TV to be folded into the G4 network
Don't know if there is a thread about this, I checked but couldn't find anything. Wired is reporting that Tech TV and G4 are becoming one network. Link to the Story.
I really really hope they essentially change G4 into the Tech TV format. Tech TV has some really enjoyable shows. The Screen Savers (especially when Leo isn't hosting), Tech Live (which I watch daily), Fresh Gear, Big Thinkers, and Nerd Nation are all pretty enjoyable and smart. G4 on the other hand is just garbage IMHO. The only shows on G4 that I think would add to Tech TV's current line-up are Pulse and Icons (which could be so much better). I must admit that I do like Filter when it's about a game genre or topic that is of interest to me, but I'm a whore for countdowns. The rest of the shows just feel like cable access shows, and for the most part are pretty embarrissing. Not to mention that G4 doesn't create nearly enough fresh programming from what I can tell. Outside of Pulse, it seems like they run the same shows over and over and over and over again. I doubt a gamer needs to see a sneak preview of Sly Cooper a whole year and change after its release.
Not to mention that a hardcore gamer probably doesn't really watch all that much tv, so a 24 hour channel geared towards them seem a bit redundant. Gamers actually, get this, game! Tech TV's X-Play is on at a certain time every day, with a decent amount of fresh content, so a gamer would seem more likely to set aside a half an hour to watch program since it's aimed at them (if they were so inclined). But G4? Yeah not so much. Maybe I'm just bitter at the thought of losing my quirky little computer network. I'm going to shut up now.
