Anyone play this game on a dial-up? I'm wondering if it would run very well on it.

Downloading the patch took at most 15 minutes for me. Come join me on the Bahamut server! My name is Odd, I'm a lvl 8 Galka Monk.

If you don't know how to choose your server besides using a world pass, check this out... relatively painless and free!

1) create character... enter race, sex, job, name
2) you'll get to a screen where it asks whether you want to link your character to your handle... cancel out of this screen to go back to the menu
3) go to select character and your character will be there and it will list what server you are on... if it's not Bahamut (or wherever you're trying to end up), just delete character and create character again.

I got my desired server on my second try, takes about a minute for each attempt.

Doesn't always work that way, as servers fill up the only way to get that specific server is a worldpass. It will just simply never show up using that tecnique.

I'm Daru, but I couldn't tell ya what server I'm on. I'm a Hume in the wooded area. I'm new to MMORPGs, so right now I'm learning how to cook an egg! I'll be fishing soon enough so I can make money and buy some furniture for my bachelor pad. The game seems really cool, and I could see how people get sucked in. I'm married so there ain't no way I'll be able to play this at the level others are! I'll probably just play the free month and let it go after that.

I have noticed that the video gets a bit choppy at times, even playing over a cable modem.

Update: I found out I'm on the Shiva server - I'm a level 4 warrior.

I think I'll be picking this up later today. It'll pain me to drop down $120 for a hard drive, game and keyboard but I'm sure it'll be fun. I really enjoy RPGs and Final Fantasy but this will be my first MMORPG.

I hear people talking about and asking for World Passes all the time but I don't really get what they are. The game automatically starts you off on a random server but if someone gives you a pass and you use it, it just transports you to that server?

World Pass allows you to create a new character on the server that the World Pass is for. For example, I'm on Bahamut and I buy you a World Pass. I give you a code that you enter during character creation which causes your character to be created on the Bahamut server.

Or just use my trick above and do it for free.

Kenobi, first month is free and you can create as many characters you want. Afterwards it's $12.95 a month and $1 for each character over your allotted one character.

Ok I'm installing this right now!

As an ex-Everquest player I have a feeling I won't be taking a shower for the next few days AND I'm on vacation!

PS Is there a "North American" server or are all servers pretty much balanced?

I haven't played my PS2 in over a year but I bought this and the Time Crisis 3 set today. I'm looking forward to setting it up tonight and testing it all out. I was going to wait for an XBOX MMORPG but this just looked too good and I'm a sucker for FF games.

there are like 30 different servers. As the servers fill up new ones are made and you get randomly placed on a server when you make your character. If however the server is at capacity (10k users i think) you will not get that world randomly. You would need a world pass to play on that world. You cannot quest with friends unless they are on your world (server). When you get a worldpass number also you have to start a totally new character on that server you want to use. So if you want to get on a friends server and play with him, make sure you get him to buy a worldpass in-game so that you don't build up a character and have to start a new one on his server. I hope that makes sense

I'll chime in, I picked this up about 5 days ago (PC), been playing for about 3 (was waiting on a world-pass) and so far -except for leveling down- it's fun.

I installed last week and have only played once due to Unreal Tournament 2004. Hey Edison, I'm on Bismarck too. If I ever get back to playing I'll look for you.

I'm really at a loss at to where to start. I don't have any weapons, that I can see, so I can't kill anything yet and I have no idea how to get weapons if I have no money. I've just been running around talking to NPCs.

I went outside but I didn't wander too far since I'm weak and clueless.

I need to sit down with this when my wife is bugging me and really look around.

Do you mean when your wife is not bugging you? Or do you mean when your wife is bugging you, you just retreat to the game room and stay there for about, oh, three or four days?

The married life of a gamer. I'm with ya, man.

Do you have to enter credit card info to get the free month, or can you just start up?

Well....I do tend to ignore her when she really starts bugging me. Most of the time if I start a game or start a movie she knows I'm "busy" and can't be bothered.

noonan4224, you need a credit card to start out with.

You should have something with you when you start. Here are the steps I was told to do by a friend who was already playing.

1. Equip your items (your weapon is probably there just not equipped)
2. Learn your spells (mages)
3. Get 'Signet' cast on you (exits to the outside will have a NPC with a "T.K." after thier name talk to them. Signet allows you to fight for your country kills & deaths count towards which region has control. Plus it will make the monsters drop cyrstals which are used in synth)

I went outside but I didn't wander too far since I'm weak and clueless.
Always "check" the monster after clicking on it usually fight easy prey, and decent challenge opponents. Watch out for even match's.

I need to sit down with this when my wife is bugging me and really look around.
I won't go there. My wife just tells me to quit cussing at the computer. (It's them damn rabbits)
