Drakengard:Whats the buzz on this one?

Bestbuy has got it on sale this week and im thinking about picking it up. Ive read some reviews that say its decent, a bit repetitive but has a unique story. Anyone have it or played it that can offer up some of thier insight?

It's worth renting but not buying.

Then again my policy is that a game not worth buying is a game not worth playing.

The story is completely inane on the level of Devil May Cry 2. Most reviews say it's a blend of Panzer Dragoon (if you're not aware of the series, you ride on a dragon and shoot stuff) and Dynasty Warriors (where you have large army battles), and they're right to a certain extent, but they leave one critical factor out: it's less of a blend of the two types of games so much as it's the two types of games put together on one disk. Neither the flight parts nor the ground battles even approach the level of gaming that either PD or DW does, and there isn't even a dramatic fusion of the two genres to warrant any sense of originality. The two gameplay aspects are kept almost wholly separate, and understandably so, but that doesn't excuse it from being a poor game. The ground combat gets old fast, like all combat games are, but there's no growth to the gameplay like DW or even Ninja Gaiden. It's only a hair better than the aweful Chaos Legion. Lastly, the graphics are dull and lifeless, and the music is totally out of place.

I didnt find Chaos Legion to be that bad of a game, actually i enjoyed it. Aside from it being quite repetitive and very difficult on just normal, it had its good spots. So who knows, i may like Drakengard.

A friend of mine the ther day told me he just found his favorite game of these consoles. Drakengard!!! He said the same thing about it being a cross between Dynasty Warriors and Panzer Dragoon though. From what he told me, you have an hour to complete each board and there are hundreds of people and things you can destroy on each board. You can fight on foot or you can call your dragon and take to the sky and fight other flyers or shoot things on the ground from the sky. One board he had just finished, he said he killed everything to get 100% and he killed over 1500 people.

Anyway, He loves the game. Give it a rent.
