texas chainsaw massacre, what was going on during the dinner scene? (spoilers)

there was so much screaming, and cutting, that even on a second viewing, I still don't know what was happening during the dinner scene. it still disturbs me, but don't know why.

due to the wierd cutting around it, (and her non stop screaming), i wasn't sure what the family was doing to her. i know, right before she left, they were trying to get the old man to hit her with something.

Never did see the remake (Don't plan to) so I'm guessing you're referring to the original.

My guess to Sally's constant screaming:

Spoiler:
After seeing what that crazed masked maniac did to her brother, she had no idea that the gas station owner (Whom she trusted) would be just as evil as the masked guy. To make matters worse, as soon as she gets the blanket taken off of her face, who's the first person that she sees? The demented hitchiker. And once all three of these guys were in the same room together, along comes "Granpa" who feasts off the blood of her finger. After she passes out, she wakes up to be surrounded by human remains disguised as furniture, along with a plate of of a certain kind of meat that could have belonged to her friends or her brother, as the crew of murderers joyfully eat away and mock her of her helplessness.

I'd say that would be enough to drive someone mad.

I'm still confused as to which version we're talking about.

also, i think thats why there is a big pic of meat on the back of the new se, that was some other kind of meat. oh, and in the remake
Spoiler:
there is a scene with the family, but the ending is more like a chase then the torture of the original
and i was trying to convince that this would be a good dinner movie. (every saturday, we watch a movie during dinner.) while there is no on screen violence, everything that happens is extremely disturbing.

The remake's director also confessed he didn't "get" the dinner scene. Rather illuminating, eh?
