Please HELP me make a right decision

Hi All,

Request your help to buy a right HT system.

Here are some of the specifications for the home theatre system am looking at:

1) Active speakers, Multi system and code free, 500-600W output.
2) 120/220V , If I can achieve 220V via any converters then I can
live with 120V.
3) S-Video, Component video, digital i/o (TV to speakers audio input).
4) DTS, Dolby, Pro logic and play as many formats as possible (MP3 is a must.)

I saw a few players like panasonic HT700, Sony HTC-800DP etc but no systems provide these configuration. Please suggest which is the best buy for me. Thanks for your time.

Regards,
vishnu.

I would reccommend the Toshiba 4900 or Phillips 727 which can be hacked to code free with PAL to NSTC. Both good players and I believe can do MP3. All connections are there as well.

As for what's left, any decent receiver would do.

Thanks for the reply. I am new to this HT Systems and have no idea about it. Apreciate your help very much. However, when you say hack, how would you do that.

Just for me to know better which receiver/speakers you suggest for my requirements, that is also affordable.

Thanks
Vishnu

Vishnu,

As for active speakers, I'm not sure why you'd want that. Do you perhaps mean active (or powered) subwoofer?

As for hack, what I mean is that you don't have to spend big bucks on a region free player. Go to dvdrhelp.com, enter the model number in teh DVD players link and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Hi,

Yes..I mean active/powered speakers.

What do you suggest for my other options. But don't you think if I pick up dvd and reciever/speakers the cost would be very high. For e.g. Panasonic HT 700 is available for 250 odd dollars.

I also heard that if we hack a player, there is a chance that DVD players might not work.

Thanks for your reply.

Regards
Vishnu

hi,

I just visited the site suggested by you. Tts very good, thanks for that. But ...do you say that there is no good DVD player(affordable) available in US that is Code free and I have to go the hack way to get this working?

AFAIK, all legitimate DVD players sold in the US were originally region 1. Yes, you must "hack" it to get region free capability. However, on some DVD player, it is as easy as to enter "1099 down down right" on the remote control.

Also, I do not understand your original question.

1. You already have active speakers and now just want a DVD player?
2. You want active speakers with 500w output?
3. Have you considered passive speakers and a receiver that can decode DD/DTS?

Why don't you tell us what you have right now?

Hi,

Sorry if am confusing all you guys...I want to buy a new one. I dont have any.

I initially started my search with Home theatre boxes, but each brand missed some features or the other...Hence I listed up a set of things that I was looking for.

I want a 75-100W active subwoofer speaker and total o/p from the front/rear/central and subwoofer around 500-600. Its like the standard HT systems (Panasonic HT 700/Sony HT800CP).

Thanks for your help

Vishnu

If you could give us your budget, that will help also. But for starter, take a look at these speakers

http://www.fluance.com/fluanceavhtb.html

and this receiver

http://www.buy.com/retail/product_ju...ec&dcaid=15890

and this DVD player

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...onics&n=507846

and this subwoofer

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshow...=300-632&DID=7

A lot of people have reported good price/performance ratios with these components. If you can spend a bit more, I suggest that you should consider putting more money into a quality sub like a HSU or a SVS.

Thanks for the information. But looks like its too much for me to afford. I was looking at 300-350$ range to start with. Usually I saw most of the low range Panasonic/Sony HT systems at this price with good features.

Hi,

Looks like I dont have too many options with my requirements and price constraints. Can someone help me to select/suggest the best of the following home theatres that are in the range of 300$.

1) SONY - HTC800DP Home Theater
2) Panasonic SC-HT700 DVD Home Theatre System
3) Philips MX5500D Surround Sound System

If you have better suggestions please let me know.

Thanks,
Vishnu
