New Van Helsing trailer
there's a new trailer for Van Helsing at http://www.apple.com/trailers/univer...elsing/trailer
Looks like it's gonna be a real fun movie and, of course, luscious, I mean Kate Bekensale is in it! The trailer looks great up till the very end where the effects on Dracula are just kinda cartoony lookin But I'm expecting it to look better on the big screen, so we'll see.......

Does look like a fun flick. Fun in the Mummy/Mummy Returns comical-fluff-action type of way. The trailer gave quite a bit away, though, and that's usually a danger sign. Nevertheless, I'll catch it.

Looks like a lot of fun. At least Brenden Frasier isn't the star of it

vampire hunter D
This looks to me like a real life version of an anime called Vampire Hunter D. Even down to the long hair, the hat, and subject matter. I'm wondering if they'll credit Vampire Hunter D as a major influence of this movie?

Looks fun, and I think what everyone here is wagering is a safe bet. I'm sure it will be revealed that they are related in some way.
In terms of Kate Beckinsale's accent, well, who cares? She looks sooooooooo delicious that this is an instance I can overlook it.
On a side note, I remember when I first saw the design for Van Helsing and thinking it was a Vampire Hunter D movie. To not give them any credit for inspiration would be a travesty IMO.

I used to be looking forward to this, but now, to be honest, I'm just not.
It looks quite similar to Sommers's other work (particularly The Mummy and its sequel). I wasn't a fan of those, and while I'll withold final judgment, I'm not looking forward to this in the least.

Not to be too critical, but, why even bother seeing this? I can almost guarantee you that it will be more of the same and definitely playing to people who enjoyed those films. I never understand people who say that they are not looking forward to a movie, say that they think it will suck, then go and see it anyway so that they can come back and say "Man, that sucked!"

This one has WAY too much given away in the trailer. This went from a must see to a probably wait for the DVD.
The other trailers were cut very well and while they didn't showcase very good effects they kept the plot info slim. This one showed some better effects work and just blew the entire story wide open.

On a more general level, if I disregarded a new movie because I didn't like a certain director/writer/actor in a previous work, I'd have missed out on some films that I really enjoyed.
Often times, the risk is worth it. Saying, "I'm not really looking forward to it," and, "Wow, this movie looks like it's going to suck!" are two different things. I reserve the "I'm not really looking forward to it" for films such as this. I reserve the "Wow, this movie looks like it's going to suck!" for movies like Scooby Doo 2.

What you describe as weaknesses others describe as strengths. Saying that better FX work is a detractor seems somewhat anal IMO.

I wanna go see it, but it seems like all these movies look the same... this, lxg, hell boy, blade 2, xmen, punisher, etc... I went and saw dawn of the dead tonight and they showed previews for hell boy, van hels, punisher, and something else and it all just looked like one long trailer.

I was looking forward to this movie until I found out his wooden stakes shoot out from between his knuckles rather than from the back of his hand, now I'm not so sure.

read a couple of reviews over at AICN awhile back, both of them said it was less than great - hope they're wrong, because I really want this one to be great...guess we'll see...
