Funny matchup; I dunno it if will "blow it away" because of Easter weekend, but it will do well. Unfortunately not a lot of people even know who or what Hellboy is, so it's success will depend largely on word of mouth.

I don't know if it will out gross The Passion of the Christ on its opening weekend or not. It doesn't have the vast appeal that most comic book films of late have had with well-known characters. Most people have no idea what Hellboy is, and quite frankly from an outsider's perspective who isn't into comics, it looks like a really dumb movie. So there's no telling how it will fare.

And if they did have any interest, the overload of commercials might turn them off. Seriously, I want to watch the movie, but everytime I watch TV I get inundated with trailers for "Hellboy."

Hellboy will do well, but it won't come close to beating The Passion. I say Hellboy will top out at 100 million at the box office while The Passion will keep going.

Who knows?
The Passion can't stay at #1 forever.
However, I wouldn't be surprised if the film goes down a number for a few weeks and then go back to #1 around Easter and Good Friday.

What a silly question . . .
One is a movie that deals with a subject literally holy to millions of people around the world and is contained in a book that outsells all others.
The other comes from a little known story in comic books that are collected by a subset of the already small group (comparatively) of comic book collectors.
I am very much looking forward to seeing Hellboy, but, at the same time, my expectations for it's box office performance are realistic.

Saw hellboy on monday. It was good but I doubt it will be anything of a box office blockbuster. Why?
the promotions are not going for an X-men look, but more for a LXG look and we all know how well that one did..
It's not a mainstream comic character.
Star power is Ron Perlman, Although he is great, he is not a bankable enough actor to sale tickets.
I'm hopeful that dawn takes this weekend, but I some what have my doubts that it will.

fyi - best buy has some free DVD preview disc of Hellboy - features interviews and clips from the movie and a few trailers. If nothing else, it's a free amaray case.
