Lambasting Movies You Haven't Seen
I'm hesitant to post this, because to be honest I don't have a solution. In the movie forum, one poster in particular is making a cottage industry out of lambasting films he hasn't seen.
Now, I can understand posts like "I saw the trailer and to be honest this movie looks like crap." I think those kind of comments are fair. But to write paragraphs and paragraphs about a movie you admit you haven't seen? Through multiple posts?
Like I said, I don't know what the solution is. Or if anybody else regards it as a "problem." But it seems to me that the poster in question is obviously more interested in getting a rise out of people than in serious film discussion.

Groucho - people do this all the time in the media. The Passion of Christ is a good example...talk about a movie that got raked over the coals before anyone saw it. Same thing happens with TV shows, radio shows, novels - you name it.

Yeah, TV Talk is often subject to this, thankfully not as much though since we deal more often in weekly threads, and these ignorant statements don't crop up until the "Best/Worst of" threads. What are you gonna do ... it seems to be the most basic human nature to criticize that which you have no knowledge about. Speaking from complete ignorance -- and then defiantly asserting your "right to an opinion" -- is the American way.
I do find this thread a bit ironic, though, considering that you once mocked my sig, stating that people have a right to their opinions, regardless of whether they're informed or not.

I just find it interesting that somebody can write paragraphs upon paragraphs about a movie they haven't even seen. It's far and beyond the typical "Looks like shit to me, I won't be seeing it!" one-liners.

It's like sports writers who haven't covered a college football game in 10 years, but they vote in the AP rankings of teams.
