Shikigame no Shiro II (attn: Shooter/Ikaruga fans!)

So, I hit this local game shop this weekend to pick up the Bonk and Adventure Island remakes for Gamecube, and the employee and I hit it off really well, talking about shooters and old school games. He shows me this GC import they have and I buy it that instant.

So, it's a shooter, much like Ikaruga (I only say this because I think it's the only shooter released here in like 10 years). There are 6 or so characters (generic anime characters, but when is anime NOT generic?), each one has 2 versions of special attack (you choose one). Now, the game has an interesting system "tension system" in that if you stay near an enemy bullet your firepower and rate triples, and any enemy you kill like this is worth x8 points. All enemies you kill drop out coins, and like Giga Wing 2 (I think..) there more you collect the more they are worth. If you use your secondary attack to kill enemies the coins will be "sucked" into you automatically.

Extras in the game are an art gallery, a story recollect mode, "extreme" mode (I made fun of this at first, but then I played it and I think it earns to use of this otherwise horribly misused word), and practive mode which allows you to replay any stage you've played invincible to practice.

This game is really amazing. I think any shooter fan should import it. I am not kidding, it's great. I actually think I like it better than Ikaruga (maybe).

Oops.. I typed the title wrong.. should be Shikigami no Shrio.. not Shikigame. In case anybody wants to do a search for more info. I'll see if I can get it changed.

This game sounds VERY familiar. Did it ever come out on the Dreamcast?

Yes.. I think it made the rounds on each system in Japan (DC, GC, Xbox, PS2).

Be on the lookout for Espgaluda for PS2 in May. That one sounds HELLAFIED cool.

Wasn't this already released as Mobile Light Force 2 on the PS2 or is this the sequel?

(unless it's a different game, sounds like the same one though)

Shikigami 1 was released as MLF2 here.. I've heard it was vastly inferior however.. haven't actually played it, but I did ask they guy about it he said it wasn't worth the time to play it.

What you describe sounds VERY MUCH like Mobile Light Force 2, which I recall is the second, because the first one came out on PSX as Mobile Light Force One..

I think it might be the same game, it's pretty good, and extreme mode is kind of fun. I got it for $3 and it's really worth the price...

I got this a couple of weeks ago. Great game. I mentioned it in brief in my Bonk for cube thread.

Pixy, you get the limited edition version? With the cat thingy?

Gamestop does not carry imports.

Toys n Joys has the limited edition for $69.99. I'm sure you can get the game only version for cheaper but I'm limited on my surfing at work.

I've been hearing that they had ported the second Shikigami game to Gamecube but I did not know it was already out. I always wanted to see how this series was (the unsucky non Mobile light force unhacked up version) the way they had designed it. I love shooters so I'm definitly picking this up, or getting the import as the case may be.

Hey you have my name (minus the capital R).. no you only need a Freeloader disc to play imports on a Gamecube minus Donkey Konga and Mr Driller Drill Land. (some games the Japanese text won't show properly which should matter if you can read it).

Remember, when you load an import game it formats your memory card...
