Probably going to be directed by the same guy who did House of The Dead, Bloodrayne, Far Cry and whatever other horrible video game movies. Joy!

This was a good idea back when Sammo Hung was to direct because there was a lot of talk that the studio and Sammo were doing everyhting to make sure that Jackie Chan, Yuen Biao, and Sammo Hung starred in the film together. I can't really picture them as any of the characters (well maybe Yuen Biao as Li Long or an older Maxi) but it would have rocked to see that trio back together again.

the Mortal Kombat movie was a total fluke that it was even remotely good... fighting games simply don't make for good movie material. Maybe a saturday afternoon cartoon series. However, I'll wait and see.

I was thinking Uwe Boll when I opened the thread... glad to see it's not him. The world needs less crappy movies based on video games, not more.

Too true. Besides, the Soul Edge/Calibur games have a better story than most fighting games. It could easily make a series of fun adventure movies if handled correctly.

Guess who co-wrote it. UWE BOLL!!! How wonderful . IMDB shows him and Dave Parker (guy who wrote House of the Dead) wrote it.

I guess this can be chalked up as a crap movie, even before it is made.

Edit: actually this looks to be a movie that was already completed, now Im confused.

flashburn,

No, that's just the proposed release date for the movie when Sammo Hung was attatched to it. IMDB seems to have added new writer information but forgot to change the proposed release date and remove Sammo Hung's name.

So it seems Uwe Boll and Dave Parker are indeed writing the script for the new production. Let's just hope there are enough negotiations problems to cancel this production as well. After all, with those two names attatched, this movie will be DOA.

Edit: Based on this bit of news from IGN, I'm guessing the main characters are Xianghua and Kilik.

The story revolves around two warriors who are chosen by Shaolin monks to recover and destroy a powerful sword, Soul Edge. It has fallen into the hands of an evil prince who plans to use it to open the gates of hell and destroy the world.
The rest is at http://cube.ign.com/articles/496/496...html?fromint=1

Change that nonesense about a prince trying to open the gates of hell to Nightmare/Ziegfried trying to ressurect his father (who he himself killed) and get rid of the aforementioned writers and we might have something.

That is just who you would like to be in the film, right? If that was the actual cast, that would be insane.

Nice choices. Though Chiaki Kuriyama is awesome she's a little too cutesy for Taki. I'd like to see someone who looks a little more mature. Then again, I'm sure her appearance in Kill Bill has me biased somewhat. Kate Beckinsale could definitely work as Ivy. Zhang Ziyi better stay away from this. I feel Xianghua should go to someone better. But I can see why you picked her. As for Ken Watanabe, yeah, I can see that. Though you'll be aging Mitsurugi a bit since, despite his mature appearance, he's only a kid in the games. Still, it's a nice dream cast.
