Saving Private Ryan Collector's Set in May!

from IGN DVD:

http://dvd.ign.com/articles/494/494691p1.html

February 25, 2004 - Universal Pictures and DreamWorks are preparing Saving Private Ryan D-Day 60th Anniversary Commemorative Edition for release on May 25 of this year, at a suggested price of $26.99.

The all-new 2-disc Commemorative Edition will feature new collectible packaging and never-before-seen bonus features. The movie will come in Dolby Digital and DTS surround sound. What the extras entail, we don't know as yet.

The new disc set will be a part of a major national publicity campaign, which includes a street event at the peak of nationwide D-Day celebration in Washington, D.C. as well as local D-Day celebrations.

This new Saving Private Ryan will be part of a larger collection called The World War II Collection, which will retail for $49.99. This package will include a collectable book, the film and two new features: Price for Peace, a $19.99 title executive produced by Steven Spielberg and Shooting War, a $19.99 title narrated by Tom Hanks, directed by Robert Schickel and executive produced by Spielberg.

More info as we get it.

Nice! Now let's hope the DTS is as good as the same track on the previous release!

Awesome. Lately I've been considering picking up the DTS version of the existing DVD. I bought the DD version of the DVD because I wanted the documentary. Now I can have the best of both worlds.

Here is a little bit of more information taken from dvdfile.com:

The Saving Private Ryan 60th Anniversary Commemorative Edition features a 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer and Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 surround tracks on disc one, plus a second disc with the same extras from the previous special edition, including an introduction by Spielberg, the 30-minute documentary Into the Breach, plus production notes, filmographies and theatrical trailers. As of now, there are no additional extras announced (but stay tuned for a confirm) and retail will be $26.95.

If the DTS track is the same, I will definitely double dip. The collectors box set for me! I'd love to see those documentaries.

Hm... so the initial "SPECIAL LIMITED EDITION" release was only "special" and "limited" up until this collector's set is released.

Wow this movie has already been out 60 years. Seems like only yesterday. Sucks they are replacing the guns with walkee talkees and calling the Nazis hippies in this version though.

In other words, if you are happy with your previous DD or DTS edition, keep your money.

I'll probably pick this up in the collector's set b/c you can never really know enough about WWII, and my girlfriend is a history nut. $50 isn't too bad (at least it doesn't sound too bad) for a set with WWII documentaries.

Regardless people's opinions of these two, when they get on something they seem to put all they have into it. (The fact taht people like us eat it up helps, though...)

I think they mean 60 years since WWII.

I could be wrong tho, or it could be that your sarcasm has no effect on me.

One or the other.

I will gladly double dip. I had SS autograph mine last year. It will be nice to frame the case and disc for a good showpiece, and buy the new one to view.

This is actually false information that has recently been debunked by such sites as DVDAnswers and Spielbergfilms.com. There will be ALL-NEW special features on disc two, according to them.

In that case, I'll definitely be buying this.

I thought that the DTS track on the original disc was full bitrate. Since the new version features both Dolby Digital and DTS it seems that the DTS track will only be half bitrate.

I'll keep the original DTS version!

This is great. One of my favorite movies ever gets a two discer, with new special features. I've been meaning to get the DTS one for a while now, so I guess I'll just wait for this in May. Looking forward to it.

The original DTS was half bitrate. This release will have the same DTS sound.
