Gilligan's Island Theme Song - Question
What the correct line:
The mate was a mighty sailing man
The skipper brave and sure
By passengers that sailed that day... or
Five passengers that sailed that day... ??
And why does the song describe Gilligan as a "mighty sailing man?" They knew from the onset that Gilligan was going to be a nimcompoop.

While I'm at it, what is the line during the end credits?
So this is a tale of our castaways, they're here for a long long time
They'll have to make the best of things...
(blah-blah-blah-blah-blah)
The first mate and the skipper too will do their very best...so forth and so on.

"Five passengers...
The Gilligan question - It's called "irony". You can look it up.
"...For it's an uphill climb..." would be the missing line, I think.

I heard the story goes, Sherwood was made to sing the theme song in front of studio executives, before the show was given the green light. So perhaps the song written long before Gilligan was cast?

First of all, the castaways are now lost after the storm! They don't know where they are or know which way to head back to civilization. Now even if they managed to build a new boat or fix the hole in the old one.. how the hell will they survive if they stocked up with food to even find civilization or even be able to get back to this isolated island?

What about all the people who washed ashore on their island for a guest episode (including a Beatles-inspired rock band)? They all managed to get off the island in short order. And none of them even mentioned the castaways to their rescuers? You'd think one of them would have said "Oh yeah, there were seven people stranded on that island including a famous millionaire and a well-known movie star.", wouldn't you? Explain that one to me.

Decker, you might be interested in this. After 8 seconds scouring the web I found out what happened to that band...yes, "The Mosquitoes"
Believe it or not, the castaways DID NOT get off the island. The rival girls group comprised of Ginger, Maryann and Mrs. Howell was so good, that Bingo, Bango, Bongo and Irving were so intimidated that they secretly fled the island afraid that their own careers might be overshadowed
NOTE: Three of the Mosquitoes (Bango, Bongo, and Irving) were played by the three singers known as the Wellingtons, the group that sang the Gilligan's Island theme song in the first season!

It's possible that, since the Howells seemed to have all the luggage (as spied from the Pilot opening credits *calapyso*), they were enroute to another destination, and the three hour tour was just something in-between.

Last night I heard the greatest cover song ever, it was called Stairway to Gilligan. And as you already guessed it was the Gilligan's island theme song mearged with Stairway to Heaven.

Stairway to Gilligan's Island got a lot of airplay on the Dr. Demento show.
My theories on the show:
The prof. didn't want to build a boat or a raft to leave the island. He was stuck on that island with two pretty girls and a rich old bag. Since he was the best looking of the three bachelors, you'd better believe he'd get the nookie in that supply hut on Friday nights.
People actually did say they had seen the castaways, but the people who washed up on the island were bigger nincompoops than Gilligan.
Wrong Way Feldman didn't get the directions right.
Eva Gabor gave weird directions (turn left at the pink powderpuff)
The Mosquitoes probably did tell people about the castaways, but they were smoking dope (not unlike gilligan) and couldn't remember where the island was.
Sadly, I actually know the damn themesong by heart, including the end credits.
I'm so ashamed.

The professor was gay. It's said in the pilot episode that he was a scout master, so there you go. He and Gilligan were trying to fill the hole, but just not the one in the boat. Skipper couldn't get them to do anything, and he was getting all the tail in the mean time, so he didn't mind.
