Any Love For Waxwork
I just picked up the Waxwork DVD and gave it a spin. I was saddened that it was presented in full frame, and did not contain the "unrated" version. However, that didn't suppress my delight in this film.
Let's get obligatory out of the way. Yes, the actual premise is a bit on the cheesy side. Yes, some of the film didn't make a lot of sense. And no, there isn't anything really "new" here. However, this movie never fails to delight me.
Where Anthony Hickox really works his magic is in the little vignettes on display here. He took all the best in many respected fields of lore, and displays them in their own little spotlight. And while none really bring anything new to the table, each course delivers the goods.
My favorite still has to be the vampire tale. A perfect blend of horror, comedy, and eroticism. Nothing like eating your fiancé for dinner.
I also loved the way Mr. Hickox took the sequel and basically lampooned himself ala Evil Dead 2. The sequel entertains almost as much as the original.
This isn't a film that often comes up when discussing "good" horror films, so I was just wondering what the feedback on it was. I would place it in my top 20 favorite horror films.

I remember being freaked out by the trailer and was scared as hell to rent it when it first arrived in video stores. But it came out at that time when most horror movies started to throw too much comedy in the genre (Like Evil Dead 2 and Texas Chainsaw 2) So I was let down when the film failed to deliver in the fright department.
So what did the unrated version have? The only grisly sequence of the movie, to me, was the leg scene. If you've seen it, you know what I'm talking about. Anything else?
