this was supposed to come out 2/3, but amazon has it as "maybe not available" and I don't know of anyone who has seen this.

is there a problem with it? anyone know?

Was this originally widescreen? I got the DVD Newsletter from Disney today, and most of the titles on it were listed as 1.33:1.

IMDB reports that it was filmed in Super 35, which is 1.33:1. I have no idea if it was shown in letterbox in theaters.

Follow Me Boys was shot in Academy Ratio(1.33:1). I think this film was never a theatrical release, it was filmed for the Wonderful World of Color, if my poor old memory serves me correctly. Yes, I am old, lol

This film was definitely a threatrical release. I saw it during its first week of release back in 1966.

The IMDb info on Follow Me Boys is inconclusive... all it says is that the film negative and printed film format are 35mm. It says nothing about aspect ratio or cinematographic process. Compare the technical info, for example, to Big Red, a 1962 Disney film which I know is widescreen, since the original Anchor Bay DVD has both full and wide versions. IMDb lists an aspect ratio of 1.85:1 and that is was shot spherical.

SO, the question remains, is Follow Me Boys OAR at 1.33:1? If I understand "Super 35" correctly, it can be shown in either widescreen or full frame, unlike "open matte" which was never intended to be shown full frame. The director, Norman Tokar, died in 1979, so we can't ask him how he composed the shots.

Well my order is still on hold through Amazon so I sit and wait on my copy...

BTW... It definitely was a theatrical release. I saw it as well when I was very young. I don't actually remember that much of the movie itself but I do remember that I liked it and I'm "pretty sure" that they whistle "Colonel Bogey's March" a few times in the movie (the whistling song from "The Bridge Over the River Kwai"). That seems to be the most memorable part of the movie for me.

Laser Movies

Amazon seems to be having trouble getting some of their new DVD releases over the past several weeks on selected titles. There was a thread in the store forum regarding delays for Star Trek VI orders last week. I had a couple of my orders delayed this week at Amazon involving the Great Ziegfeld and Keeping Up Appearances box set. When I called customer service they said they were still waiting for the inventory of those titles to arrive. At least the CSR was nice enough to ship part of an order that was being held up by the delay.
